I'm still having issues with Preston not being able to become my companion after the 1.3 patch.


Bethesda even said this was supposed to be a fix in 1.3!


Seems to be after the "taking independence" mission.


Anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?

Same problem. He just says something like, "Hello, General." But no option to join. I've waited for this patch primarily for this fix. Astounding that it's not working as promised.

Same. I stopped playing and waited.


Preston was my primary companion, he had high spec gear and power armor too.


Did they even check this before releasing the patch?!


I love this game, but these bugs are starting to become very frustrating.

Currently the only way to fix it is to go back to an earlier save just before retaking the castle. Not really practical if you've put a lot of time in the game since you done that quest.

I've put in 2 day's worth since that save...


What would we even have to do differently to avoid the bug?

I kept playing once I heard a patch was coming. Now I'd be losing an ungodly amount of progress if I started over.

go back to fallout nv, or hope Bethesda fix fo4 or obsidian make fo5

I have stopped playing. Not sure if I want to invest so much time just to encounter another bug that they won't fix.

Same problem. Could anyone from Bethesda inform if is it retroactive but they are solving it at least? i don't wanna loose my "other life" progress
