Thought the 1.3 patch was to fix this?

Same thing here. It appears the patch only prevents the bugs it fixes from happening. If your game got bugged before the patch you are screwed unless you go back to a save that was just before you finished taking the castle.

Ugh. Horrible. Bethesda makes a very convincing case for why it's best to buy their games used a year in instead of buying new games at launch. I don't have time for multiple playthroughs of games. My first time is my last time, so this will be my memory of Fallout 4.

Does Bethesda's response make sense to anyone?

We're to understand a conversation needs to be concluded in a location other than the spot where Preston is standing directly in front of me? Nope, makes no sense.

I'm going to try and do a mission that Preston gave me when I wasn't able to interact with him.


I'll let you know if this fixes anything and "completes the conversation".

Still does the "you killed all of those people" crap with me.

I never did anything to anger him. He just repeats greetings.

Do Bethesda reps respond to posts here? Figured they would as it's their forum, but review of most threads shows hardly any involvement from them.

Bethesda should specify if the bug fixes are retroactive, i noticed about the glitch just when i do the take the independence mission. I see in the patch notes about the fix and i continue playing, expecting that i would be able to speak with Preston in a near future. but now i see there is no solution, and i don't go to start a new game with +100 hours played.

Same. I saw the patch notes so continued to play, I'm now two days game time past the castle mission.


Luckily my furthest back save is just before the mission.


But that's two days lost...


Apparently it can be fixed on PC with a simple console command. Why can't this be in the patch?
