Preston, Jun, Carla & Cattle on Roof - C'mon!

Post » Fri Jan 29, 2016 8:20 am

I've heard about this on and off, but c'mon, this is ridiculous.

I consciously try to avoid Preston, but wanted to finally close out some pending crap. Try to find him, and he's on the roof of our main house in Sanctuary, along with Jun Long, and Carla, and even her friggin brahmin.

Yeah, I know I could build stairs to reach them, but c'mon - the brahmin makes it up to the roof too?

This never came up in earlier testing?

Ye, I've experienced the same...

I guessed BGS just laughed too hard at it to fix it ;)

NPCs / monsters drop from the sky when an area is being populated. That is how it was done in Skyrim and it carries over into Fallout 4 because it basically uses a modified version of the Creation Engine designed for Skyrim.

It's worse at Graygarden.

There is a double tier highway that stretches over the buildable settlement area. Unassigned settlers drop on top of the highway very often and since there is no way down they sit on the couch that is up there. On the PC you will need to use the console command TCL to "fly" up there and back down to assign them to a task. Once a settler is assigned, they no longer seem to spawn on top of the highway.

I've had the same provisioner Brahmin stuck in my bedroom at Sanctuary (the house with the workbench) for the past 65+ levels. The wierd thing is that they don't seem to belong to a provisioner - I've searched everywhere for an owner but can't find one. They (it?) don't belong to Carla, because her own lunatic cow lags behind her by about half a game day, and gallops up the road every time just as she is leaving Sanctuary.

Deb at Bunker Hill is standing on the roof of the shed next to the main gate. I can jump from the stairs of the monument in order to trade.

I think they misunderstood you when you say raise the roof.

Sounds more like you're just mad you weren't invited to their sky high scenic party on the roof.

i moved my preston to the castle. he is my second in command and it makes more sense for him to be at the minutemen stronghold.

btw you can turn off the speakers at the castle preventing you from getting more minutemen quests just by being there.

I've also noticed that NPCs "bug out" to the roof (and other places) if their idling locations are blocked. I found Sturges on the roof moments after placing a couch against one of his favorite hammering walls, and Carla's cow got lodged at a weird angle in a bedroom wall after I built a guard post in its usual spot. In the first case, it's unlikely that the cell was reset, but It might be the same basic bug. Maybe NPCs that are stuck on or blocked by PC-placed obstacles are "fixed" by getting re-populated. Regardless, I've been a bit more mindful of where I put things, and I haven't had any more roof parties or http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--Jgw2PTJl--/oetabagvvis21u9q3moa.jpg.

I always wondered why they don't just walk down the incline off towards the manor. That's what I do. I realize it's outside the build zone, but, still.

My solution was just one REALLY long staircase. Of course Dogmeat and my settlers have a habit of falling off of it, which is always funny.
