Preston is in love with me (and I aint cool with it!)

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2016 7:05 pm

So on my latest play-through I decided to NOT avoid the Concord Five and just do the MM and Sanctuary build-up first. I took Preston as my companion early on. We did a bunch of quests near Sanctuary and in a fairly short amount of time I had reached max affinity. I'm playing a male character (always do just have no desire to RP a female as I am male..but if you do that's cool with me). Anyway through no fault of mine it's fairly obvious the guy IS IN LOVE WITH ME!

He told me his sob stories like FIVE TIMES now about how he was ready to die! And we have had the follow up question about if I UNDERSTOOD the sob-story about FIVE TIMES! I have assured him we are cool and I get it multiple times but the game just keeps on presenting me with overt FLIRT and ROMANCE options which I keep NOT DOING. If this were the real world I would probably be considering a restraining order right about now! I did dismiss him after I got Curie out of vault 81....yet whenever I would visit Sanctuary he just kept hitting on me again and again. Finally I did choose a more "harsh" dialog option - "Lets keep it professional". And now he seems to have stopped pushing the romance/feelings stuff.

He does still look at me weird sometimes and the other day he said some dialog I've never heard before as he walked by:

" I TRUST you...and I don't say that lightly"

Geez!

Hey, it's OK. I went through all that with Piper and found myself wondering what the female equivalent of a Bromance is. It's cool, though, "I love you too, hon, but just not in THAT way," and she never brought it up again.

I'm surprised you got it five times, though. I think it only came up twice with Piper.

Oh well, the next time you feel yourself going all Regina George over the whole thing, just re-watch a marathon of Scrubs, Fast & Furious and Ben Affleck/Matt Damon movies: bromances are cool.

I'm male but I prefer playing the female character in Fallout 4. Mainly because I find their voice acting more enjoyable than the male character's near constant monotone. Except for lines said when taking Chems, the male VA is superior there.

Try having multiple companions at max affinity. If you don't romance them, they'll repeat their max affinity dialogue often. I ended up accidentally selecting the "Romance" option a few times because I'm mashing the 1 key to skip through the dialogue I've heard several times already. Which leads to me loading an earlier save and having to go through the dialogue again; hoping I don't accidentally select it again.

I posted about this about 10 days ago. I think the title was "Fallout 4 needs cold showers".

McCready and Garvey kept hitting on me while I was with someone else. Garvey is especially pathetic.

McCready kept doing that to one of my characters, eventually I deported him to a solo existance on Sentinal Island for some Mirelurk bonding :)

I've dodged the issue completely by simply avoiding certain companions. A companion can be male, or a companion can be romancable, but if the potential companion is both I simply won't recruit him at all.

I always get repeatedly spammed by MacCready, Preston and Piper - I let them start the first line, then leg it before they complete the conversation, and it resets them for a short while. I'm already an item with Cait (but I'm sure she will be equally spammy if I wasn't). The only possible romance option who stays silent is Curie, due to her bug, so basically it's just a way to keep all the romance options open (you can activate Curie's with a couple of console commands). Hancock is hidden in the Old State House, so I never see him anymore, while I never did get close enough to Danse.

Playing with Piper a few days ago, I tested the dialogue choices which come after the colorful romance option is activated. Piper asks if you think things would work between the two of you, and one of the responses amounted to 'No, it would never work.' After that I got the perk without the romance and the subject never came up again.

It's the look that bothers me the most. I banished him to the castle, let Ronnie straighten him out. Creeper.

Come to think about it, I struggle to think of any game where romance was done well.

Baldur's Gate II is the best one I can think of. Romancing Viconia in particular was like a mini-game.

It's always so forced. "You know, we've been killing people together for awhile, let's date!" Pretty much any game with action and "romance"

sixlab mod for skyrim ... it's a little bit over the top and obviously they can't integrate it a "commercial" game but it's better then what u get in most games

- yeah the "romance" later option is a good thing , but it should be accessible thru a dialogue option NOT - auto-targeted when u walk nearby like it is right now

I don't know... seems realistic to me.

Your partner waits until you are knee-deep in the equivalent of Death's Head Radscorpions, and then says, "We gotta talk".

Picking the "Keep it professional" line or the equivalent for the other companions should keep them from bringing it up again, I'm not sure if it consistently does though.
