Price?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 4:47 pm

So ... how much is the PC version of Skyrim going to be? I've noticed a lot of PC games from EA going $60 lately, and every price speculation thread about Skyrim is swiftly DELETED. Not locked, but censored, which makes me think Skyrim will be $60 on PC (at which point it really should be $70 on console). The deletions are really screaming to me that Bethesda is doing that lame $60 PC game garbage.

Well if the other threads are deleted, there is a reason. I could care less what the price is, it will be worth it. It's worth over a hundred dollars worth of game time imo.

Too early to speculate. Probably follow the mainstream.

Why should we pay as much as you? Your games cost more because of a royalty fee charged by the console manufacturer. PC is royalty free. There is no reason for PC games to be as much except for greed.

This. Doesn't make sense to charge more for less of a product.

I think it's pretty fair as well. Technically it's pretty cheap entertainment.

As previously stated, it's another TES title. to me, if common games are worth 60-70$, Skyrim could be worth almost twice that and I'd still buy it's collector's Edition.

Make it well, keep up the quality, and I just can't put a price on 5 years of entertainment, as Oblivion brought me, and Morrowind before that.

This. Doesn't make sense to charge more for less of a product.

It does when a third party charges a large royalty fee on every sale. PC does not have a third party charging huge royalty fees or controlling how and when you can patch the game. You just release it and publish a patch installer. No crazy fees or expensive approval processes.

$60 seems to be the average price for new PC games, so I don't expect it to be any more or less.

$60 seems to be the trend among high-end games at this time, so it seems more than reasonable for Skyrim. Personally I would pay more

I do not consider place holders to be legitimate. We will know when the game is released.

Around where I live, almost all new games are $49.99, so I would assume here that is what Skyrim will cost here too, but time will tell.

It's a pre-order price, not a place-holder. If you order it at that price, it should only be able to go down, not up.

Are you referring to your earlier thread, that helpfully had
$60 PC Trololo!
as the title? Considering the title, I thought it was a flame-bait/trolling attempt and deleted it. Proclaiming that you'll wait for a year and buy it when the price goes down isn't really worth announcing on the forums.

If you're talking about the price on Amazon, who knows? Or did you not notice the Pre-order Price Guarantee. Learn more. Its what Amazon puts on things that don't have a price set in stone yet. And amazingly enough, they charge the lower price if the game is released at the lower price.

I wonder if pre-orders actually affect the release price?

Either high-quantity resulting in the developers offering a bit of a deal since they know they are getting their investment back already, or low-quantity resulting in a price drop in order to drive more sales?

I suppose there really is no way to know since publishers would never release that information.

There is no reason this can't be discussed. Since you helpfully stayed away from the problematic thread title this time.

That price has been out on more than Amazon. I'm hoping its announced on Steam soon, if it hasn't been already. The final price will be set before release.

Well, you see, ever since the next-gen consoles came out, the normal game price shot up to $60 as the game quality shot up too, so... I'd be guessing $200,000,000.
No, but really? Why would it be anything but $60?
