Of Princes and Power- OOC Thread 2

Ok, in that case: will the lack of a duke of Shornhelm matter?
It'll be fine, A sapp, you and I could decide things if necessary but we'll have to see.

Sorry Erasmos, I only checked on the IC thread.

I've already made a Duke of Shornhelm... (it's up there ^^)

and down here..
Spoiler

Name
Allard Lariat

Title
Grand Duke of Shornhelm

Age
38

Race
Breton

Gender
Male

Appearance
Allard Lariat is a tall man, his dark green eyes contain an immense amount of grief and sorrow so much so that it is said that those who look into them are hit, for just a second, by a wave of despair. His face is aging and ruggedly unkempt. His physical build is degrading fast though once he was a very well built, strong man. His hair is equally neglected though not yet long and is slowly greying.
  • Tall
  • Sad, dark green eyes
  • Aging and unkempt face
  • Physically degrading
  • Hair is neglected and messy, brown but slowly greying
Skills
Being schooled his entire life by top instructors Allard has reached proficiency in duelling skills, destruction and restoration magic, along with minor alchemy influences. He has studied all the schools of magicka to a degree which allows him to recognise different types of spells. As a young man Allard dreamed of being a poet or bard and so has the ability to write, though something he does sparingly.

Equipment
Carries with him a long ornamental sword and wears long expensive black robes and is never seen in another colour, on his head a circlet containing a small green jewel can be seen, an improvement on the crown he had as king which was made of simple copper.

Background
From a young age Allard was tutored and readied for his position in becoming a new king. He loathed the fact at first and dreamed of escape and becoming a bard. To quell these fancies his father, Roran Lariat, had him squired to one of the knights of the land and soon he learned to respect these men. However not long after Allard stole one of the knights horses and escaped searching for adventure. It wasn’t long though until he discovered the true state of the kingdom as he explored, he discovered that many of the people in the kingdom suffered and were extremely poor.

This discovery drove him to do the things he did, which ultimately won the peoples love but not the nobles. His first act as king was to sell any of the castle’s unneeded items, vast amounts of expensive silk tapestries, curtains, rugs and jewellery were sold off at once, including the old kings crown. In it’s place Allard wore a copper circlet, a symbol that he would expend luxury for his people. This act earned him the name ‘The Pauper King’ throughout the upper echelons of society and the nobles of Shornhelm found him a disgrace to their people. It was no doubt then for this reason that when Northpoint turned on the kingdom the noblemen soon abandoned their king and joined the enemy, which ultimately aided them enough to defeat Shornhelm and claim it for themselves. During this time of turmoil Allard’s pregnant wife and queen of the land, Lady Selene Lariat, became gravely ill. It is said that watching his wife slowly die while his kingdom crumbled drove old Allard mad. After the city of Shornhelm was captured by the enemy, they found Allard sat on his throne weeping, for his wife had died but hours earlier. They discovered that the King submitted easily and decided to keep him on the throne to quell the peasants.

That's great :D I was just looking at this:
"The Grand Duchy of Sharnhelm (26):

Grand Duke: (open)
Grand Duchess: (open)

Vassals:
  • The County of Darguard (19): (open)
  • The Barony of Thornvale (22): (open)
  • The Barony of Eagle Brook (16): (open)"
Which says it's open. :/ So yeah, I'll edit the background to fit your character and Sharnhelm.

Gorbad, or should I say Admiral, where do you think Shornhelm's principle port would be? I'm drawing the map right now, and as of this moment Shornhelm has no ports XD.

So where do you think would be best?

Also, if anyone has any ideas where they would like a port or a village, now is the time :)

Spoiler

Name: Barnan Diamond-Tooth
Title: Captain of the Fallen Demon
Age: 55
Race: Breton

Gender: Male

Appearance: As his name says, one of his teeth is pure diamond, just to make sure he has something with him in case of emergency. He is tall and strong, the years and years of being a captain makes him a very authoritarian. He has a rugged look, but his age cannot be seen in either the way he moves or looks. He wears not a pirate outfit like he used to, but bretonic fine clothing with deep blue shoulders, white torse with a black leather armor reinforcement that are completed by gold decorated, black leather pants and black boots. He has his long hair curled up on sides and wears it as a necklace, decorated by tiny rings of emerald green metal. The rest of his hair is shorter, loosly folded behind him. His hair is darker than night, but has a vein of bright green hair, sickly green, as if from a curse.

Skills: An able sea-man and beast in navigating deadly waters. He knows how to use his falchion and two boot-daggers. Not known to fight fair, fair combat won't keep you alive, he coats his blades in poison. A natural charmer of the ladies, at least back at his youth, and a silver-tongue when it comes to escaping bad situations.

Equipment (Weapons, armor, misc.): Leather armor (see appearence), a falchion coated in poison, two daggers coated in poison, his hair is a necklace with tiny green emeralds, enchanted with water-breathing.

Background: He was born on the sea and has spent more time of ships and the sea than on land. Early childhood and advlthood involved shady underground business, smuggling of illegal goods and sometimes even sea-robbery. He was caught, but his silver-tongue managed to help him escape. From there, he slowly began gathering reputation around High Rock and five years later was the leader of a small smuggling operation by himself. It only took him a few more years of calculated business and sabotage to make him the pirate captain of the Avenger. That ship was a fast, but small, ship that was infamous for disappearing and ambushing other ships by surprise. He learned the way of sea-fight from the captains point of view. The stealing and plundering of high rock was, however, risky and Barnan got a most tempting deal with the duke of Sharnhelm himself. Years of service under his banner made him the captain of the Fallen Demon, a massive warship that packed a punch in every way one could imagine. Ruin exploration had even managed to equip it with two slow dwemer crossbolts, a huge advantage against all ships within their range thanks to the explosive ammunition. The crew contained everything from cartographers and alchemists to archers and even a few priests. The rest of the crew all had years and years of melee combat experience, not a single one fighting fair. That's how Barnan wanted things. Honor is for the dead. The Sharnhelm navy was more than just one ship too, half a dozen smaller ships regularily patrolled the water ways from northpoint to evermore, but always keeping to the west side of the gulf. The fastest of these smaller ships is The Restless Serpent, whose captain if a young but promising lad called Aster Faris who reminds Barnan of his own youth.

Character background will explain where, basically the west side of the gulf.

Edit: Full char-sheet is up, in the spoiler above.

Nice. I'll add a little dot for a port, and a road connecting to the capital.

Okay, one final question....anyone got a good name for the gulf? I called the bottom of it "The Bay of Hearts", but I guess it is more of a Gulf now you mention it.

Asap doesn't seem to have noticed my character sheet yet, I'll PM it him. Your character could be a key part of the rebellion against Northpoint? Of course the Duke can't openly support it but he could discuss the different things which would be unfortunate for Northpoint if they were to happen, with his Admiral, who could then make certain these things do happen..

Oh but the Black Wastes are a craggy moor in Southern Gwened and Southwest Evermore . The entire of Gwened being "Black Wastes" doesn't do much for its reputation as the bread-basket of Evermore :P

Btw, here is the WIP map. Are there any features people would like? I think it might be ready to take on its role as the official map now though..? http://i40.tinypic.com/2zr13te.png

Well if you look at this map: http://www.imperial-library.info/sites/default/files/gallery_files/HighRockSmart.jpg There's a forest called "Gavandon forest". So Gulf Gavandon might be a fitting name? Or, Gulf Eltheric.

Nice idea, but that map is so many shades of stupid. The one thing it has going for it, is it fits the 3rd Edition Pocket Guide's over-all shape of High Rock (which ours does not). Gauvadon is a city near Wayrest, and the names are so similar I think someone might have gotten confused. I'm thinking maybe we could go for something even more generic. How about the High Gulf? Or the Gulf of Rocks

is it correct that from Gwened to Evermore would take max two days ? I don't know but according to Vincent map it what a big 44 miles so even if you move at 1 mile/hour it won't take two days, if they don't stop.

by the way I love the map :)

That sounds about right. It depends on where you are coming from, of course. From Azra's Crossing (which is a city built around a bridge over the river Azra, don't you know!), it would be a short journey. I don't know what/where the other big settlements in Gwened are, or where the Count keeps court.

I guess I should add a complete char-sheet for the Fallen Demon?

Here goes:

Name: The Fallen Demon
Title: Battle-ship under the command of Barnan Diamond-Tooth
Age: Has seen many battles and has seen a dozen years of service.
Gender: Female, like most ships.

Appearance: A massive battle-ship made from the best wood found in all of tamriel, straight from Vvalenwood. The wood is of the darkest brown and is reinforced with ebony to penetrate the rare ice that might form up in the northern oceans of high rock. Three huge sails of non-flammable cloth, dark as ebony, carrying the proud symbol of Sharnhelm and a diamond.

Equipment: Can pack a punch in every way one could imagine. Ruin exploration have managed to equip it with two slow dwemer crossbolts, a huge advantage against all ships within their range thanks to the explosive ammunition. The crew contained everything from cartographers and alchemists to archers and even a few priests. The rest of the crew all had years and years of melee combat experience, not a single one fighting fair. The ship is very fast for its size when its windy. Able to crush small ships easily. Its front is also reinforced to survive a full frontal charge into a similar sized ship, but not without taking damage herself.

I've just took it as the county Gwened was actually called after the biggest city called Gwened :P so that would be were the count keeps court. it would be pretty close to the crypt of hearts since the Knights of the Crypt would have their own Keep between Gwened and the crypt. You know it could be a bit like the Wall in GoT. although they have almost no problems anymore with the crypt since they found away to close the third floor off.

the two first floors are in the hands of the knights and are mostly used as burial chambers for their fallen brothers.

The City-state model does seem to be the standard for High Rock. I'll add a City of Gwened somewhere in the middle for you on the next revision of the map.

Oh, and, Athell, if you'd like any more dirt on Queen Syllawen, give me a bell.

This has got me thinking about the feast actually. Try as I might, there is no chance I'll be able to handle every aspect of the Celebrations. That'd be a job for an entire team of GMs . So when the feast does come about, everyone is welcome to invent stuff within it. Castle Evermore has many chambers, and the streets of the city will be packed with little events marking this hallowed day. If everyone contributes together, we may be able to approach the lavishness we could realisticly expect from The Festival Of Peace.

Does anyone have any good ideas for the tourney? I'm thinking maybe one of martial prowess, healers at the ready, of course. Perhaps the winner is crowned Mock-King of Peace and wins, um, dinner, with Her Majesty the Hostess?

yes!! Aleron agrees ! and and a hell of a ball! you know, maybe with some sort of competition to be the couple dancing the longest time ? we could have magical shows on the streets and and ...

btw: vincent, make Gwened a bit closer to the Crypt of Hearts. (not in the middle of Gwened.) please ?

oh oh, and i'm almost done with my post, just need to add the funeral :( Leon's dead. then a month will pas before Aleron travels to Evermore. I'll post for Lorundil when Broken-scale or the lord of Northpoint have posted.

This feast might take the rest of the RP if we are not careful :P

I like the idea of a melee tournament though. Something about future enemies in a war sparring in front of half the most important eyes in High Rock is jsut too awesome to pass up. If anyone here has played Mount and Blade, just think of when you end up in the final round against the King you just rebelled against and defeated in a war, and have recently made peace with. And then you best him. :)

Jousting tournament.
Tournament of the fools.
Singers/Bards competition.
Melee- Grand Melee for the Full-Blown knights and the Lesser Melee for their squires and such.
Acrobats competition?

Just some ideas.

Edit: The idea of a melee at the Feast of Peace really does tickle my irony gland.

anyone knows about burial traditions ?

I was thinking of having every Knight that could be called to come, so not those gone away on duties somewhere else in the county, would be there dressed in black capes, and Leon's family. Aleron would say something about Leon's life. He would be burned on a pyre and (maybe the knights could sing to praise Leon's life ?) then as 'to be' Grandmaster of the knights he would enter the crypt of Hearts and lay him to rest in the crypt. (While the other Knights keep singing?)

I don't know.

All of them! I'm thinking one tournament at least we should roleplay some of the matches in, one of one-on-one dueling. After all, a good deal of the people present are meant to have skill at duels, and the excitement just writes itself.
