Of Princes and Power - OOC Thread 5

I'm still working on it. I barely have things down and organized into one document. It's more like 10 different things that loosely correlate to one another and only make sense in my head when I look at them

I'll get to working on it this week and put them up here.
Feel free to contact me for help, i'm no stranger to crafting lore.

The party is gonna start v soon btw. Though I'm going to be ultra busy with exams these next two weeks, so I wont' be that on the ball for ..the ball. Tbh this thing never moves fast anyway, so it should be okay.

Quentillius is writing a post set the morning of the party. We can assume it is slightly out of sequence, or all start doing a post for how our characters spent the next pleasant day or so before the festival starts.

I'm sure once we have a wiki, I'll be ultra busy on it. I have a belly full of fluff for Evermore, and also for Shornhelm, for which I am the only RPer now =/.

Oh, and I just noticed the new OP. So, without further ado, here is a short synopsis of my principal characters:

Evermore:

Syllawen Direnni: The enigmatic Queen of Evermore. Syllawen is a Altmer of the famous Direnni Clan, who once ruled all High Rock. She is an extraordinarily beautiful woman of golden skin and copper-coloured hair. Regarded as one of the most supremely beautiful ladies in all of Tamriel even before her coronation, it may be safely remarked that Syllawen's remarkable good looks and high breeding may be the only two things going for her. She is extravagant hedonist, a hopeless romantic and often seen as an airhead. Her promiscuity is legendary, and in her short reign since the death of her mighty husband King Titus, she has brought a cosmopolitan, eastern culture to once-sleepy Evermore.

Raurich Cantone: Lord Raurich, known by the familiar title "Master Raurich" by all the servants and even the Lords and Ladies of Castle Evermore, is Chamberlain to Queen Syllawen, Keeper of the Seal and the eldest member of the Order of the Hourglass, Evermore's most prestigious knightly order, as well as holding the minor Barony of Evralle. A man of advanced years, Master Raurich is chiefly in charge of the comings and goings of Castle Evermore. He is the sane, wavering voice in the wild Queen's ear, and the one stabilising factor in the unpredictable Court of Evermore. Kind in heart and conservative in disposition, the oft-disproving Master Raurich is probably the most loyal subject in Syllawen's broad Kingdom.

Shornhelm:

Meldorn Lariat: A prince of the proud house Lariat. Nephew to the dethroned King of Shornhelm, Meldorn is a Breton of fiery temperament and chivalrous vigour, who distinguished himself at a young age as a formidable warrior. In the war between Shornhelm and Northpoint, Meldorn fought valiantly but was captured. His wild behaviour as a hostage: several attempts of escape and spitting in the King of Northpoint's face, led Meldorn to be imprisoned, and then forgotten, long after the war had ended. Assumed dead by all on both sides, Meldorn now makes his escape, to return to the land of his Uncle.

Alright guys, after conferring with my part-time co-gm (Vincent), we've decided that any newer people should direct their attention to Wayrest or Shornhelm since they are currently void of RP'ers.

Here is a character sheet I threw togther for a mercenary character I plan on using later.

Spoiler

Name:His real name has been lost to time, though he calls himself Rydek
Title:He simply goes by Rydek, and calls himself a mercenary or sellsword.
Age:roughly 3,000 years
Race:Dark Elf/Wereboar
Gender:Male

Appearance:Rydek is tall, standing at roughly 6’ 2’’, with a lean, wiry build. His black hair is unkempt and cut close to his skull, which is handsomely gaunt. In his beast form, Rydek resembles a seven foot tall Wereboar (for that’s what he is), covered in dark brown fur with hungry red eyes.

Skills:Rydek is skilled in the arts of swordcraft and spearcraft, though his fighting techniques are a bit rusty. During his times in Hircine’s Realm, he has developed a keen ability to stay hidden and move quietly, as well as some basic alchemy. Rydek can efficiently move in most light a medium weight armors, and is a strong athlete and acrobat. His social skills tend to fail him at times due to his seclusion over the past millennia, and his memories often become jumbled messes, causing him to be socially inept. As a Wereboar, Rydek can easily tear one asunder with his razor sharp claws, deadly tusks, and teeth; his articulately brute force is not to be trifled with, though he often does not know what he is doing in his beast form, and will attack friend and foe alike.

Equipment (Weapons, armor, misc.):Outfitted in a leather and thin chainmail suit of armor, Rydek also wields a Nordic Broadsword of steel into battle, and keeps several knives on his person. He also carries an oak-bound volume in his pack that contains several notes, sketches, poems, and general information about his “past life” that he is trying to reclaim. A small satchel of gold, travel rations, and a good book are not uncommon features to his pack as well.

Background:Rydek, living under another name, was once a noble warrior and scholar of Great House Indoril during the First Era. He decided to venture to the western lands, following in Vehk and his Hortator’s steps to learn from foreign sword-saints when he met his fate. As he was traversing in the forest late at night, he was ambushed by a ravenous Wereboar. Rydek won the battle, though he did not kill the creature, and did not leave unscathed.

The beast had wounded him, delivering a blow that infected him with the disease of Lycanthropy. Upon the discovery of his curse, Rydek flew into a rage and cursed Hircine, the god of the hunt for a full day, until the Deadric Prince visited him. The god of the hunt offered Rydek the chance to redeem himself and slay the beast who afflicted him.

Irrationally accepting Hircine’s offer, Rydek was transported to Hircine’s Realm, the Hunting Grounds, to track and kill the creature who had caused such desecration upon him. It took several weeks, but Rydek found and eventually killed his quarry. Upon slaying the unholy beast, Hircine refused to allow Rydek back to Nirn, deciding instead to keep him as a play thing in his realm.

Over the years, Rydek was driven insane by his anger and hatred for the prince of the hunt, as well as his ever failing memory. While the Dunmer’s brain deteriorated, causing him to almost completely forget his past life, his body remained static and unaging. The only solace Rydek could find in the hunting grounds was the primal elation of killing his prey, which in itself was disgraceful and meaningless.

It wasn’t until Hircine offered to free the winner of a hunting competition that Rydek found purpose in his shattered life. After winning this competition, and presenting Hircine with the hide of a fellow lycanthrope, the god of the hunt freed Rydek, sending him back to Nirn with his lycanthropy intact, but not his sanity.

Ever since then, Rydek has been wandering about as a mercenary and assassin, searching for a cure to his disease, and trying to find some way to strike back at Hircine. He most recently found some information in the royal libraries of High Rock, and is attempting to obtain any information he can about his past life or his curse.

Here's my character summaries. I added ones for Ser Garrett and Ser Barron, and I'll add more as minor characters show up throughout the RP.

NORTHPOINT
King Daric Caron: A stern, serious man, King Daric stands in contrast to many of his fellow royals throughout High Rock. Though he was never meant to become king, and only took the throne after the death of his brother, Daric has proved an efficient one, expanding Northpoint’s kingdom to include Shornhelm, while at the same time allowing Northpoint’s trade to prosper because of a commitment to controlling the northern seas of High Rock. Daric's intimidating appearance - tall and extremely fit, with a hard face and a militaristic style of dress - is fitting for his reputation as a ruthless king.

Princess Elissa Caron: The only child of King Daric Caron, Elissa is thus the heiress to one of the major powers of High Rock, and has been groomed for the position her entire life. Though she inherited her father’s unyielding personality, she also possesses an ability to relate with people that her father unfortunately lacks. However, with her 18th birthday on the horizon and her future seemingly chosen for her, Elissa has begun to question what it is she truly wants from life, and who can help her achieve that.

Ser Barron of White Haven: The Lord Commander of the Royal Guard of Northpoint, Ser Barron of White Haven is one of the most recognized and well-respected knights in the realm. The uncle of the current Baron of White Haven, Ser Barron was originally supposed to take the Barony, as his father, the late Baron Woodrow Marshall wished. However, numerous disagreements with his father (including, as Ser Barron puts it, “his remarkable immaturity”, citing his own naming as an example) led Ser Barron to abandon his family name and the barony for a life of service to the crown. Even now, as he approaches his 50s, he has no regrets.

Ser Garrett Crowe: Not many orphans with unknown parentage can ever aspire to work their way up to knighthood, let alone a member of the Royal Guard. But for those that do, Ser Garrett serves as an inspiration. Ser Garrett earned his place as a squire during the Northpoint-Shornhelm War, where, 16 at the time, he saved the life of a knight named Dame Rosaline Thoreau, a Knight of the Tempest, Northpoint’s chivalric order. Impressed by the untrained boy’s raw fighting skill, Dame Rosaline sponsored him as her squire, and, within a year-and-a-half, knighted him. Keeping with his humble roots, Ser Garrett keeps a rough and tumble appearance - though many women find it to look dashing - and uses his hand-crafted staff-sword in battle. Ser Garrett has the reputation amongst other Northpoint knights for being a relentless and incredibly skilled fighter with his unique weapon.

So, as I'm writing the background for my character, I keep finding that I'm creating lore for the war between Northpoint and Shornhelm. Is that alright with y'all and then I'll flesh it out or would you prefer I come up with something else?

My finished (I believe) CS. Without further ado, I present, Duke Veric Montrend.

Name: Duke Veric Montrend
Title: Duke of Thorkan, Knight Commander of the Order of the Knights of the Old Gate, Councilman and Ebon Knight of the Fraternal Order of the Knights of the Mines
Age: 29
Race: Breton
Gender: Male

Appearance: The Duke is the epitome of a typical Thorkanian male, just slightly better in most aspects. He is rather tall, standing around six feet and two inches, and fills out his large frame quite impressively. The majority of his two-hundred-and-thirty-pound weight consists of solid muscle, achieved by many days of hard work, military training, and genetics, but a small layer of fat has started to encroach. Regardless, he is still stout, broad-shouldered, and barrel-chested. His hair is a very dark brown, close to black, and is kept quite short and close to his skull. In his youth, it was longer and swept to the side, but that was before the war and when he had time to gallivant around. His eyes are the color of the iron that is found in abundance in Thorkan's mines. He also has several noticeable scars, the most prominent being one that reaches from his right cheekbone almost to his ear. This is also his newest scar, attained during the war with Shornhelm. Another notable scar lies on the left side of his ribs, just above his fifth rib. It is a jagged, yet small scar, and has a twin on his back. That one was received when he was a young boy and a rival of his father's decided to try and assassinate the only male heir to the Duchy of Thorkan at that time.

Skills: Rather adept with one-handed blades, using his shield both offensively and defensively, military strategy, history, and is adequate at diplomacy. Has little knowledge in the way of magic, but can perform a simple healing spell on himself and can also magically enhance the volume of his voice.

Equipment (Weapons, armor, misc.): He wields a sword made of Ebony, which was given to him by his father on the day he came of age and was mined, smelted, and forged all in Thorkan. He also prefers to wear the armor of the Knights of the Old Gate, but when dealing with everyday court functions and at festivals, he typically wears garments with colors ranging from silver to grey, with a tinge of gold, white, or black here or there. His white cape, with the black symbol of the Old Gate, is always worn, though, no matter the occasion. Rarely seen, but always on his person, is an Elvish dagger that he received from a fellow Knight of the Mines, who happened to be an Altmeri master smith, upon his initiation into the Order. When seen though, he simply says he stumbled upon it in the vaults when he was a young boy. Finally, he carries two tokens, each in separate pouches, one hidden and the other not. The first token, which is not hidden, simply bears the crest of the Duchy on one side and his personal crest on the other, identifying him as the Duke of Thorkan. The other token, which is always hidden and kept a secret but to a select few, is an almost perfect sphere of Ebony, with an etching of the Ebonarm on it.

Background: Veric was the firstborn of Duke Edwinn Montrend, and as such, had been 'groomed' to rule Thorkan since birth. Groomed is not a good word to use because Edwinn, just like his father, and his father before him, and so on and so forth throughout the Montrend line, was a hard, stern, and tough man. Sure, he had his gentler side, but that was only in private and Veric could remember many a smile that the public and average Thorkanian would not believe. As soon as he could walk, he was carrying a small knife, no bigger than one used for eating, but a sharp, pointy thing nonetheless. Almost every male Montrend had some amount of military experience, whether it be in the wars that have shaped Tamriel, petty squabbles with other minor states of High Rock, or simply dispersing of bandits, pirates, or smugglers.

The Granite Keep, which was situated on the pinnacle of a mountain between Thorkan Park and Old Gate, was a challenging place for a young boy to grow up. It was not vast or grand as one would expect, but rather small. In other words, it was almost impossible to get away with the mischief that most young boys get themselves into. This raw energy needed a focus though, and his father was able to direct it into learning, succeeding where most parents did not. In Veric, he found a student yearning to learn how to rule, how to fight, and anything else he could learn. His mother wanted him to have some affinity with magic, as did many of his less noble cousins, but Veric was simply uninterested in it for the most part. He would take hours upon hours of swordsmanship practice over one hour of magic, and he often did, alternating tutors, so he could practice against many different styles. It was during one of these lessons when he was around the age of thirteen that he witnessed his first real taste of political intrigue. It was much more up close and personal than he had expected however. He had begun an elaborate ruse to sneak in his blade and catch his tutor off guard, but after the first turn, he found himself spinning in the opposite direction due to a sudden impact in his chest. It took a second to comprehend what was happening, but the yell for guards from his tutor, as well as the massive bulk of the man covering him, soon made him feel the pain that was growing in his chest. Looking down, he discovered an arrow sticking through his torso.

The healers said he was one of the luckiest cases they had ever seen, for the arrow had gone straight through, without hitting anything vital. The sudden turn that he had used to begin his elaborate ruse had been what saved him. The assassin had let fly of his arrow and watched it, instead of firing another, and was soon caught as he tried to escape the keep. When Veric was recovered enough to stand for an extended amount of time, he put on his best clothes, strapped on his short-sword that was already starting to look small on the growing boy, and attended the sentencing of his would-be assassin, showing no fear or pain. In a move that shocked many, his father, Edwinn, had asked his opinion on the matter, in front of everyone. The young boy had looked really hard at the assassin, and he remembered everything about the moment. He looked scared. He was on his knees in front of the throne and the raised dais that served to separate the Duke and his retinue from everyone else. His pale blue eyes were flitting about and his light yellow hair seemed stringy and frayed. He almost looked like a common beggar, but a common beggar did not simply infiltrate the Granite Keep with a high quality bow, and an Elvish knife. There was something more to it. The young Veric had slowly stood, but did so firmly, and made his way to the kneeling prisoner. "Look up." Once the prisoner had accomplished that and their eyes had locked, Veric simply asked, "Who paid you?" The prisoner looked as if he was going to say something, but instead, he gathered saliva in his mouth and reared back to spit in the young boy's face. The spittle missed it's target by a long shot, however, as the boy's fist connected with the man's jaw a split-second before. Taking that as his answer, Veric returned to his father and announced, "I think he should be executed with the same bow he attempted to kill me with." And so his father had done so, and had required Veric to watch.

Several years later came Veric's first experience with killing someone by his own hand, as his father charged him and several other Knights of the Old Gate to travel up into the mountains and disperse a bandit camp that had been harassing traders. The Duke had only tasked his son and the others of dispersing, and had not given any guidelines or anything else to work with, leaving all of the planning to Veric, who had already started proving he would become a valorous and renowned knight. The victory was flawless, with no deaths to the Knights, and every bandit taken down. Veric had personally killed their leader in single combat. The search of the camp had even turned up a large crate of precious jewels that were freshly mined and uncut, being smuggled out of Thorkanian mines.

It was several more years later when the war between Northpoint and Shornhelm began. The Old Gate was a key location and several very large battles took place there, since it straddled the highway that connected the cities of Shornhelm and Northpoint. The Gate had been there for as long as anyone could remember, sealing off passage into the Wrothgarian Mountains. When the forces of Shornhelm and her vassals had amassed to come down the Wrothgarian's and surprise Thorkan and Northpoint, they found a smaller number of troops, but that smaller number were well dug-in, with fortifications stretching up into the mountains along the road, leaving the actual Gate as the final barricade. All of the Knights of the Old Gate were in this first massive battle, with several at each fortification and the ten who served as honor-guard of the Gate bolstered to fifteen, including Duke Edwinn and Veric. The battle lasted for several days, but the force from Northpoint that the King had sent to help delay Shornhelm and the whole of the Thorkanian army held off the much larger horde of Shornhelm and broke wave after wave on their spears, pikes, halberds, and arrows. And when those of Shornhelm somehow got past those, they were cut to pieces by the fierce guardians of the pass.

The victory was widely celebrated as it had also provided cover for the main force of Northpoint, and her other vassals to strike along the coast and take Shornhelm's coastal vassals, leaving Shornhelm herself for the final prize. Veric had escaped the war with a couple of scars but nothing severe, and had gone far beyond what had been expected of him by his father and the majority of the war council. This had earned him a high standing in the Knights of the Old Gate, along with several rewards from his father, including one of the Ebony mines and land near the city of Thorkan Park, which was where most of the wealthier class spent their winters. The Duke, however, did not come out for the better, after sustaining a severe injury in one of the final skirmishes with troops from Shornhelm. The healers did all they could, but Duke Edwinn was nearing his sixtieth year, and his body simply could not take it. On his deathbed, he spoke to his son one final time. What was discussed between the two has never been told to anyone, but part of it involved a ceremony meant only for a Knight of the Mines. The next meeting of the secret Order was in the near future, and the new Duke was charged with attending and giving a coded, verbal report to the council from the now-deceased Ebon Knight.

And so Veric, now with the title of Duke and already having sworn fealty to the King of Northpoint, rode towards his home at Thorkan Park, but under cover of darkness, he passed the estate and kept riding. He rode until he reached the ruins of Sancre Tor, riding under the guise of an Ebony merchant. He remembered very clearly the report his father had relayed to him and the instructions he had been given. He found the hidden entrance and descended through passages that seemed to have not been used in many years. The tunnels dumped him out behind a specific seat that sat empty, while the rest of the seats that formed a semi-circle reached to his left and right were occupied by robed figures. Straight ahead was a raised dais and table with three more seats, of a more ornate appearance, and behind them was a massive statue that Veric had never seen before, but assumed was Reymon Ebonarm, by what his father had told him. After he gave the report and allayed everyone's fears, he was inducted into the secret fraternity of knights.

Since that night, he has been a changed man, but not so much as to raise suspicion. That had been just several years ago, and the Duchy had prospered since then, increasing their production in the mines and the smithies. A few minor skirmishes with Shornhelm patrols still happened every now and then, but never anything major, and they usually end up even with one or two of each side getting killed or seriously injured.

EDIT: Spoiler tags weren't working, so I just took them out. Sorry!

Wow. I have been away for a long, long time. Glad to see this is still going, sorry about randomly disappearing. Life has a habit of getting in the way of things. I'd say I'd join soon but I now have two months filled with exams, I'd love to join again after they're over though.

I'm curious, is my character Barnan Diamond-Tooth still in this RP, talking to the high-profile guy of Shornhelm/Sharnhelm?

Good stuff, I love me some fluff. All the details of the Shornhelm war chime with what I had, too. It is Shornhelm, not Sharnhelm btw. For some reason the most recent official map has two spelling mistakes for High Rock - Sharnhelm and Evermor. It is a pretty bad map anyway, so we are going with the original versions found in in-game literature: Shornhelm and Evermore.

Well hello there. I, um, have written an entire character arc based around the absence of your character Duke Allard. Awkwaaard! I had/have him going into a sort of melancholy fuelled madness, with the possibility of him recovering, but Meldorn likely to take over as Regent in the meantime. When he finally gets back to Shornhelm anyway.

Hmm. Since Barnan the ex-pirate (my char) is loyal to the Duke Allard (Erasmos char), I think it could fuel some interesting RPing if Erasmos and I came back to the RP
But that'll have to wait two months it seems. :P

I would really like to sit down and work all of that stuff out with you two though, as well as anyone else who wants to help. I was going to make a wiki that acts almost like a history text book. We could have detailed chapters in a timeline manner describing the many conflicts that sprung up after the fracturing of the Empire. As well as individual sections for each state.
I would be willing to help out with anything, particularly the Talos Order, the Orcs (I am considering Role-Playing the son of Gortwog, Orc-Lord of Orsinium) for which I am developing lore for and the Thalmor.

You won't find any character more loyal to King, Duke Allard than Meldorn Lariat. But I'm sure we can work something out.

Yeah, I had been gone for a long time so I suppose something had to be done with the brooding duke. I'll try to read everything that has happened and catch up with it, for now I assume he's just locked up in his castle in a crazed state?

Also, here's the description thing for Tiberius.

Sir Tiberius Valerius Aquila (Played by Quentillius) - The hardened Colovian warrior-monk, forever protecting the Queen of Evermore. Tiberius or Aquila as he addressed as by strangers, is an extremely competent combatant with his life dedicated to the art of combat. Once a war hero in the Imperial Legion during the Oblivion Crisis and a veteran of the many wars waged by King Titus in Evermore, the warrior-monk is certainly a powerful foe. He is Pontifex-Maximus of the Talos Order, an order that reverently worships the God of War and Governance. Members of the Talos Order (a derivative of the Talos Cult) live in the memory of the great King Titus, the deceased husband of Queen Syllawen and forever wish to fulfil their oath that they shall die to put a strong man back on the throne of Tamriel. Tiberius is loyal to no ends, an honest and honourable man that craves no power of his own, living to fulfil his nonsensical promise to King Titus to protect the Queen of Evermore... a promise so contextually absurd that an outsider could uncover a misunderstanding.

Actually, the RP has moved so slowly, and the scene Meldorn was going to have during the party ended up being postponed (due to another RPer dropping out), so as things stand we haven't even got to Shornhelm yet. I was thinking he has just been slowly drifting off, without anyone even noticing - basically took the idea from your first post and expanded on it. Meldorn's arc was to return and then fight a war to return his Uncle's crown to him.

Thanks, I wasn't sure which it was due to the different spellings I had seen, so I just went with one. I'll get to fixing it though. As for the war, I just kinda wrote it as it popped into my head and it seemed to work, plus it was plausible and would definitely be a good strategy. I can't express how glad I am that school is over and I can focus on non-school-related things, like helping to write the lore for this.

I, on the other hand, shall simply endeavour to neglect school as much as is humanly possible without failing anything, and continue writing nonsensical bits that no one cares about and which may or may not involve increasing levels of bastardness and actually be a more or less (usually less) elaborate and dressed up rip off of another universe's lore. Although as far as bare-bones history and very basic groundwork for the realms now in Daggerfall's direct fold, I might just import some previously written stuff since, conveniently, I wrote a bit about Glenpoint, Tulune and Glenumbra already for the Timeline.

See http://ibt.wikia.com/wiki/Barony_of_Tulune, http://ibt.wikia.com/wiki/Barony_of_Glenubra_Moors and http://ibt.wikia.com/wiki/Barony_of_Glenpoint if interested.

Asap, got a lot of Orc lore in mind. Spoken to Vincent and can very easily integrate the ideas I have into the two Orsiniums concept. Expect a son-of-Gortwog character soon. Also, what is the lore regarding the fate of the Knights of the Nine...?

Sorry!

Very nice!

Accepted, I'll add it to the list.
Wow. I have been away for a long, long time. Glad to see this is still going, sorry about randomly disappearing. Life has a habit of getting in the way of things. I'd say I'd join soon but I now have two months filled with exams, I'd love to join again after they're over though.

Nice to have you back man!

I would be willing to help out with anything, particularly the Talos Order, the Orcs (I am considering Role-Playing the son of Gortwog, Orc-Lord of Orsinium) for which I am developing lore for and the Thalmor.

Awesome! As soon as I get the Wiki up then I'll link it here and we can all start adding stuff.

Nice. In fact, we should just steal about everything on the IBT wiki and slightly alter it :P

Asap, got a lot of Orc lore in mind. Spoken to Vincent and can very easily integrate the ideas I have into the two Orsiniums concept. Expect a son-of-Gortwog character soon. Also, what is the lore regarding the fate of the Knights of the Nine...?

As of right now I haven't done anything with the KoTN. That was one of the points I was going to brainstorm with you guys on.

So I did update the OP.

Then accidentally clicked out of the tab before I clicked save.

I'll do it again tomorrow. Too tired to mess with it tonight.
