Priorities...

Post » Sat Jan 01, 2011 12:43 am

So we've discuessed a lot of thing with what needs to be changed in future ES games but what I would like you to tell me now is: If you had a choice to pick only one absolute priority for the development team to focus on what would it be?

Initially I wanted to make this a poll but the question is way too general, so let me know and maybe bethesda will see what they need to work on eh? ;)

Choice. Simple as that. I want the game to let me play the way I want, and would rather have my character start with a blank past for the best RPing experience. Also with choice I'd like some more morally grey areas, I'm guessing due to Oblivion they'll probably be aiming for an M rating this time, so that will be more possible.

One thing that needs to be changed: restrictions.

If I'm restricted from doing anything, it's bad. No restrictions. Reduce the amount of restrictions to zero.

Any lock can be picked or opened with magic, no special keys. Any bed can be slept in. Any NPC can die. Every door can be entered, even the door to the other team's bloodworks.

Any dungeon can be entered at any point. Every item can be taken and sold anywhere.

Yes! I agree 1000% with both....even if you can only sleep for an hour or two...

Anything done right. Whether it's combat, stealth, magic, atmosphere or plot, if it's done good, for me it can carry the rest of the game by itself.

I'm going to say the very general response of "more roleplaying opportunites" because it encompasses so many of the subtopics within, like
better character creation, more choices, morally grey choices, different combat situations, different gear options... It encompasses so many things that are, to me, vital to the game's overall fun.

Attention to detail. Everywhere.

If you've never played a TES game and had one of those "This is just a game!" moments... For me, it was "these people sleep on top of their blankets? GAME." Also, someone made a ship rocking mod. It's those little things that matter.

Also, Attention to detail in the coding itself. Borderlands has crashed on me like three times in a week. Oblivion and Fallout 3 and Morrowind will all do it that much in 4-6 hours.

Choice.

AND Consequence.

EDIT: They are kind of one thing, because they're kind of tied.

Attention to detail is more important than more choices imo. I want a world thats fun to explore and be a part of.

Every item can be taken and sold anywhere.

I have to disagree with this one. Why would the guy who sells produce buy an infinity plus one sword from me? I think having restrictions on what merchants will buy is okay, so long as, when you take all the merchant types into account, any item could be sold, as long as you were selling to the right merchant.

I think what he meant was that the item you steal in bruma shouldn't show up as stolen when you sell to another shop. I mean how is the leyawin shopkeep know it's stolen.

I would like to see more things to steal. Morrowind had those great house vaults, but in oblivion it felt like there wasn't anywhere worth breaking into or stealing outside the theives guild questline.

I'd say a better magic system.

I'm going along with you I want a visceral action magic. Do away with major minor and etc fireball spells. One fire spell damage based on destruction skill, willpower and how long you hold the mouse button. I want to do a levitated enhanced leap over big burly, while stunning him with a paralysis spell. I want to charge a telekinetic blast and send an annoying wood elf flying off a mountain, or pummel him with little blast until he doesn't have any stamina to stand.

Good point. Let me elaborate.

I was really referring to the silly stolen items in Oblivion that could only be sold to a fence (I guess the merchants could tell by scanning the barcode, or maybe the magnetic sensor beeped on the way in, either way, very immersion breaking, get rid of it)

On the other hand, yes, produce merchants should, generally, only buy produce and so on.

On the subject, it would be cool to see an option to barter with anyone, like in Fallout, in case they just happen to have something they'd like to get rid of in exchange for an item of your loot.

You know, I don't like the multiple stores, so taking some pointers from the rts genre unit upgrades and resource selling, the player should have a menu for selling their swag on the fly - perhaps through a clandestine, interdimensional commerce guild - using something called the "interwebs." Selling crap through an online hub. A TES craigslist.

Make everything within the gameplay deeper. The story is going to be taken care of I know that so I want the gameplay to be make more interactive and more fun. Deeper fighting, magic, potion making etc. I wouldent mind a potion mixing mini game as to how you mix it you could get either different potions or stronger/weaker potions depending on your skill. In a series like ES things need to be as deep as possible. Making things basic tends to lead to them being boring soon.
