Private multiplayer

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and although I finished Crysis 1&2, I am definitely new to the Crysis Multiplayer experience. I recently bought the Hunter's Edition and tried to invite my brother to a casual multiplayer game.

Then it struck to me that I have no idea how to make one. After some searching I am still not sure if it can be done in this game. So my question to you is: can I have a private multiplayer game with just my friends? Or are all the servers open so people I don't know can join?

I guess what I'm looking for is something akin to Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer game where you can have random games with people you don't know but also you can create a private game when only those on your friendlist can join.

The only way to have your own server is to pay money to rent one. Then you could probably set a password, but public servers rented by other people are public; you could join with your friends and hope no one else joins, but if you want your own server you'll have to cough up the cash.

^Renting a private server is cheaper than a public one.

Wait there are differences? I thought you just rent a server and then later decide whether or not you want a password or whatever.

Ok thank you for the answer. A follow up question: if I have headphones with mic and my friends have them too, do I have to rent a server with some kind of voice server (teamspeak/mumble/ventrilo) or will I be able to speak to them without it if they're in my squad?

Pretty sure Crysis 3 has in built voice chat

Alternatively you could just use Steam's voice chat, works perfectly fine for me
