Probably useless Dawnguard speculation...

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 11:53 pm

I've barely looked into what this DLC is supposed to contain and am almost certainly offtrack here but:

Dawnguard, one who guards the Dawn,
The Thalmor want to unmake Dawn('s beauty)/want to return to the Dawn,
Dovahkiin is Shezarrine. Incarnate or mantler? I don't know.

Would be interesting. But I don't anticipate something as big this early in the game's lifespan.

Many of the TU's files revolve around vampires, vampire killcams/feeding, vampire lords, a coffin puzzle, a Snow Elf prince, and crossbows.

I don't like it, but I think it's going to heavily involve vampirism.

But keep in mind that Meridia as an ex Magna-Ge has a lot to do with light, and she hates vampires. And a Dawnguard sounds like it might be a vamp slayer.

I like it. About time Bethesda gives vampirism some sort of importance. The whiners can rot in Oblivion for all I care, since I know it won't be just about vampires. They can add some Snow Princes, Vivec, Dwemer or something like that. As long as many people are happy.

Dawnguard, one who guards the Dawn,

I would change this to Dawnguard, one who guards against the Dawn.

I get the idea that most of the stuff in the files (particularly vampires) relates to the gamejam. I could be wrong, but can't think of any other reason it would be in there, aside from it looking cool.
The Snow Elf Prince is intriguing, however.

That would make Azura your enemy. And the sun rises every morning right? So obviously the Dawnguard(s) don't do (their) job right.

Or more likely, the Thalmor.

It's clearly going to be about a Falmer Vampire who is working as a Thalmor agent in a plot to block/plug up the sun/Magnus and unleash vampires all over the empire of men.

You forgot to fit crossbows in there somewhere.

crossbows are weapons... weapons that are often used to kill vampires.

And they found Lorkhans heart and tied it to a giant crossbow.

Edit:

I'm starting to worry that this will resemble a plot line that belongs in Oblivion...

I don't want a DLC that centers around vampires, they're so boring. Though, I don't think that Dawnguard will be about vampires, or at least center around them.

Well, that'd be the point of a vampire-centered DLC. To make vampires more interesting.

This is my theory. Dawnguard will revolve around both the Falmer and Vampires... because Falmer ARE Vampires.

I mean, vampires in general aren't appealing to me. They've been done for hundreds of years and they never really get any better. Given how interesting TES is compared to other fictional universes, they could possibly change it up and make it more exciting, but I think nearly everyone in the Lore forum would prefer some Lore forum-y topic to explore. Metaphysics, history, space travel, unmaking the universe. Something a little more unique. Not, in my opinion, a really dull topic.

Yes, I wasn't appealed by Vampire DLC either until I forumulated my theory. Click the link. Do it.

Indeed.

Oh, and didn't MK mention us getting to play something explaining the Acturian Heresy situation, don't think Dawnguard is it, but did we ever hear anything else about that?

The Dawn, not dawn.

It's only happened, what? Three times? Or is it every time the Dragon Breaks?

Dawn is a word that is used very often in TES.

Azura (Dawn/Dusk)

Mythic Dawn

Starry Heart of Dawn's Beauty

There was a Dremora in Oblivion files called a Dawnguard as well.

I don't think it will be vampire-centric though. Bethesda knows that everyone has different tastes. Thank goodness they added other things than boring old dragons such as guilds and quests that do not relate to the main quest. I never found Snow Elves interesting because they aren't sinister enough..or dark, for that matter. Same as everything else in the Elder Scrolls. Daedra, werewolves, vampires, Liches are pretty much the interesting things for me in the franchise, but I know many people love the kalpa or Vivec or CHIM stuff. And I am not flaming them. We all have our tastes. But I know for a fact Bethesda will add a variety of things for people who dislike vampires and for people that like vampires.

It should be well-balanced. Snow Elves should not be associated with vampirism at all, in my opinion. It would just make them seem lame(Pfft, Snow Elf vampire? Yeah right. Lamae Beolfag would kick his ass). Same thing I felt when the Companions were made into werewolves. A bunch of whiny little warriors who don't know anything about being a werewolf(except for Aela and Skjor). Bethesda would make many people happy if they simply made the Companions regular unnaflicted warriors. Many people complained that they were forced to become a werewolf just to complete the quests. If they kept it normal, many people wouldn't complain. And in the process, they could of made a werewolf tribe to join that would wage a mini war against the Silver Hand while having radiant Lycanthropy-related quets.

My point is that Bethesda will appeal to different people. If they made Skyrim JUST about boring old dragons and dragonborn, it would take away the "Live another life in another world" motto. Not everyone wants to run around belching dragon shouts and slaying dragons as a cliche hero. Same reason why Dawnguard won't just be about vampires, since many people find them boring, uninstering and just plain generic and they want to avoid being burned in the sun and running around as a blood-svcking parasite. Elder Scrolls offers variety and that is what I like about it.

Give me playable werewolves and vampires so I can destroy pathetic humans! Give people prophezied heroes so they can be save the world from an impending doom! Everyone is happy!

Dawn has a very specific meaning in the Elder Scrolls. It refers to that period of untime where things get crazy because Akatosh is still sleepy.

There was the Dawn Era, but there was also the so-called Middle Dawn, which was when Marukh broke the Dragon, wasn't it? And I've heard the Warp in the West referred to as a Dawn as well.

Literally the time before time. I love that concept. Mundus has only existed for 7000-7500 years but the time when time was non-linear allows for a much longer history than normally possible. It's genius. I want a glimpse of what happened then.

Also, I noticed some of the files that have been added were Elder Scroll reading animations. I wonder if that has anything to do with the Snow Elf Prince.
