I'm playing Daggerfall and doing the Qualifying Examination Quest for the Thieves Guild and I can't find the guild contact. I broke into the house and stole the clothing well within the time limit, traveled to the town in the note, and asked around for the contact named in the note. I went to the Residence people marked on my map and the person in the house was not the contact.

I then searched every building in the town with no luck.

I have gone back to a save from before I stole the clothes several times to try again and that has not helped either.

Am I missing something? Is this a common glitch that can somehow be fixed?

Check for an attic. There is sometimes a ladder up to an attic.
