Problem: Mesh doesn't show up in game

Hello, I am new to the whole modelling & modding business, but I boldly made a mesh of a sword together with diffuse and normal maps.

Now the problem is when I try to drop it all into Oblivion via CS it doesn't show up! No box, no purple mesh, nothing. The cell view window lists the new object, and the invisible sword is in the game, but no mesh.

My mesh show up in Nifskope correctly and the texture does too, so I don't understand why it doesn't show up in game.
I use the steel shortsword as base for importing my mesh but I tried using broadsword as well to no avail.
Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Maybe when I exported the nif file from 3ds max I'm supposed to pick some specific option or when I save the mesh in nifskope?

OS: Windows 7
Oblivion and CS version: 1.2
Nifskope version 1.0.22

Best way to get help with a specific mesh like this is to upload a copy of the NIF and\or textures somewhere and include a link here -- that way people can take a look at the Nif and see what the problem might be (since there are many possibilities - it's hard to tell without seeing the NIf and\or textures) -- SInce you mention importing the model into an existing Nif -- did you import it to the main branch of the NIF or a separate Branch (ie. it should be listed under the NiNode 0 branch as a sub tree not added to the bottom of the NIf as a separate Tree)

Oh my.... was that solution a shot in the dark or is this something we noobs are prone to do, because that is exactly what the problem was.
Many thanks.

An educated guess -- from the information you listed and the list of possible reasons that it would not show up in game.
