Problem renting bed in Pelagiad

Post » Wed Apr 20, 2011 11:04 pm

Started a new game with a lot (for me) of mods. My character is at the tavern in Pelagiad wanting to rent a room for the night. The dialogue with the innkeeper looks right and she says the room is mine, but no gold is removed from my inventory. I go upstairs and the room is locked. The warnings.txt file says:
One of the files that "shrinetext.esp" is dependent on has changed since the last save.
This may result in errors. Saving again will clear this message
but not necessarily fix any errors.
One of the files that "RealSignposts.esp" is dependent on has changed since the last save.

One of the files that "AtmosphericSoundEffects-3.0-Tribunal.esp" is dependent on has changed since the last save.

but not necessarily fix any errors.
One of the files that "Sound Enhancements.esp" is dependent on has changed since the last save.
This may result in errors. Saving again will clear this message
but not necessarily fix any errors.
One of the files that "GOTYSTMPPPatch.esp" is dependent on has changed since the last save.

but not necessarily fix any errors.
One of the files that "VGreetings-Thief.esp" is dependent on has changed since the last save.
This may result in errors. Saving again will clear this message
but not necessarily fix any errors.
One or more plugins could not find the correct versions of the master files they depend on. Errors may occur during load or game play. Check the "Warnings.txt" file for more information.

Too early in my game to know if I'm going to have this problem at other taverns, and I can't tell from the warnings which mod is causing the problem.

Help appreciated.

Thanks,

John

Well, something has messed-up your Pub_Pelagiad_Halfway script.
My first thought is that it might be this: Beds4Rent.esp

Although you do have some mods here I don't recognize at all.

Have you run your Load Order through http://code.google.com/p/mlox/wiki/Mlox yet?
(I would also strongly suggest creating a Mashed List.esp with Wrye Mash, and a Merged Object.esp with TESTool or SmartMerger)

---

Warnings like this: "One of the files that "shrinetext.esp" is dependent on has changed since the last save......" usually won't be too problematic, but updating your Save with Wrye Mash will ensure no problems arise.

Warnings like this: "One or more plugins could not find the correct versions of the master files they depend on...." are harmless, but updating any Yellow esps in Wrye Mash will remove the error.

Warnings of the following type are harmless and can be ignored:
"Not able to find Foot part in BC_shoes_common_1"
Texture "Textures\_land_default.tga" count 3

The line of dialog is from LGNPC Pelagiad. That entry writes to the local variable 'rent' declared in the official script Pub_Pelagiad_Halfway. LGNPC Pelagiad does not alter that script or Drelasa Ramothran, but perhaps another mod does. You can open the console by pressing the tithe '~' key and type: TFH . After closing the console mouse over Drelasa Ramothran and you will learn what (if any) script is attached to her. If she has been altered in any way this might give a clue as to what mod is responsible.

@Pluto, thanks. I checked it out with mlox. mlox recoomends some load order changes, but some of its suggestions seem to contradict what the mod's readme says, so I'm leery of changing things. And I'm afraid your suggestions of a Mashed List.esp with Wrye Mash, and a Merged Object.esp with TESTool or SmartMerger) are greek to me. I'll see what I can learn, but what will probably happen is that I'll try a kludge fix (for example, in Pelagiad, I chose to wait for the dawn and then left to sleep elsewhere) and in the future will make sure that I don't need to rest there.

What I can say is that in Wrye Mash most of the mods have green check boxes to the left and the three that are pink are not checked off for installation now. I returned to play Morrowind after say a four years hiatus, which would account for some of the mods being unfamiliar. The older ones were ones that worked fine for me AFAICT and that I enjoyed then. It's been a very long time since I had to think about and remember things such as load order, GMSTs, merged lists, etc. I've forgotten nearly all of it in fact and am starting over from scratch.

@Cyran0, thanks for the steps I need to follow. I suspect I'll run into the same issue as I mentioned above, too little experience yet to understand the messages I get. I follow your point that a change by one mod may actually be masking the real cause of the problem. With as many mods as I loaded up this time, there's certainly no end of suspects. My guess is that it will be something to do with the LGNPC mod, homes to let or maybe the trainers mod. LGNPC certainly adds and changes dialogue; I hope that it's not the cause because I enjoyed what I've encountered so far although I discovered that one of the mods has changed the Imperial Cult behavior in Peagiad as well.

Thanks. If I can figure things out, I'll keep you'all posted.

Cyran0,

I started a new game after doing a restore of my backup and then re-installing the various mods, including the LGNPC mods. My new character is in Pelagiad and encounters the same problem as originally reported. The mod in question is LGNPC_Pelagiad_v1_22.esp.

There is also what I consider a seriously major bug with respect to Ygfa and to the Imperial Cult dialogues. When I went to talk with Ygfa, she does not refernce the Imperial Cult nor does she ooes she talk about her trade and ISTR that in the previous game with the LGNPC mods installed, she is still referenced as person to learn about the healing arts and also as one of the Imperial Cult's persons to talk with about joining.

I followed your instructions to use TFH to look for scripts as well as testing what happens with and without the mod installed.

With the mod installed

When I talk with the Halfway barkeep and click on "beds", an error message popped up:
Script Pub_Pelagiad_Halfway Syntax Error Line 2
Could not find variable 'rent'

She offers the room but doesn't take the money and of course the door to the room remains locked.using TFH, it provided the barkeep's name and said script Pub_Pelagiad_Halfway

WRT Ygfa, TFH said script max_lgnpc_ygfa_sc_01 - (I'm not certain I wrote it down correctly)

Here's a screenshot of Ygfa's dialog options with the mod:

After I removed the mod from the Data Files loader, the problem with renting the room went away, and Ygfa's conversation options seemed to be back to what I expected.

screenshot without the mod:

Perhaps this will help. I liked the offbeat responses but this bug and the changes to Ygfa and to Imperial Cult dialogue pretty much ruins playing it in my games because my characters look to Ygfa for mentoring about the healing arts and for initial details about the Imperial Cult. This seems to negate both avenues. And ISTR that I ran into similar disconnects in conversations with NPCs in other parts of Morrowind. Can you give a bit more info about that aspect?

Thanks,

John

@John: I have been unable to reproduce your results. With LGNPC Pelagiad loaded alone or with the rest of our mods, Drelasa Ramothran offers me a bed, takes my ten drakes, unlocks the door to the rental room, turns down the covers and places a mint on the pillow (so to speak).

When I met Ygfa she saw something special in me and suggested that I join the Imperial Cult. I inquired further but in the end I declined. Ygfa seemed a little disappointed so the smooth things over with her I inquired about her trade and made other small talk to feign interest in her life. I must say I was very impressed with her encyclopedic knowledge of potions, but when Ygfa began telling me about the variety of diseases to be had on the island I offered some pretense to excuse myself.

In fairness, Ygfa did not always greet me by extolling the virtues of the Imperial Cult. I checking the construction set and it appears that her new greetings have a fifty percent chance of being used - the rest of the time she uses her official greeting. I suspect that you were just unlucky. You might test Ygfa again to see if repeated greetings do not eventually yield the familiar official greeting you have been anticipating.

As for your inability to rent a room in the Halfway Tavern you might consider downloading LGNPC Pelagiad again in case your copy has become corrupted. If that does not solve the problem you should look elsewhere for your lodgings or remove that mod from your load list.
