Problem running OBSE

Post » Tue Apr 27, 2010 11:44 pm

Hi there,

I just migrated my install of Oblivion over to a new PC (from WinXP to Win7). I started by installing Oblivion GOTY on the new machine and then copied my modded Oblivion over to it. Oblivion itself launches fine but when I try to run obse_loader.exe I get an error message saying that the program cannot start because d3dx9_41.dll is missing. I know this is something to do with perhaps moving from dx9 to dx10 on the new system, but how do I find the DLL or bypass the porblem?

Many thanks :D

So, wait, you totally reinstalled Oblivion and OBSE or did you just move over the files? Because it sounds like you simply copied the files...and missed something important. If you didn't already, try download and reinstalling OBSE at least.

I installed Oblivion GOTY (without OBSE) from scratch. I then copied my whole original modded oblivion copy over, including OBSE. Have tried reinstalling OBSE, which doesn't work.

Did you have any OBSE plugin DLLs in data\obse\Plugins\ ? Try temporarily disabling those and see if that helps. D3DX9 v41 is too new to be used by Oblivion, so it must be coming from somewhere like that.

Also run the http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3 to make sure you have all of the D3DX9 libraries.

Thanks ianpatt, you were on the money! Depthtest.dll in the plugins folder was causing the error!

Thanks again :D
