If your game is frequently crashing, the first thing you’ll want to do is restart the game and/or system to see if that helps. If restarting your game or your system doesn’t help, you’ll need to take more desperate measures to get the problem ironed out.

If you’re experiencing PC crashes, you’ll first want to download the latest patch from Bethesda, patch 1.1.30 beta update. It comes with a fix for audio module that was causing the game to crash on some PCs. To apply this patch, follow these steps:

  1. Log into Steam
  2. Right-click on Fallout 4 in your Library
  3. Select “Settings“, then “Betas
  4. A drop-down menu will appear; select the “beta – 1.1.30 Beta Update
  5. Click “OK“, then wait a few minutes for Fallout 4 to update
  6. When the beta patching has finished, Fallout 4 should appear as “Fallout 4 [beta]” in your Library

If that doesn’t work, and you’re using an NVIDIA video card, http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1543988-a-data-vault-of-tweaks-and-fixes-for-the-pc-version/. You’ll need your admin password but if you’re playing on your computer, this shouldn’t be a problem.

Make sure that you update your drivers and you’ll also want to test out various graphics settings to make sure that you’re not burdening your resources. If your settings are too high, the game will crash more frequently.

Hi, Thanks for the detailed reply,

Unfortunately the game refuses to launch full stop, not played a single second as of yet.

Experiencing the same as user; Nvidia user, not overclocked. Was working fine last night, also had to do a Windows update last night but was able to play after reboot. Today, press play, nothing happens, the Fallout Launcher comes back up for press play again. No chance for cinematic, game attempts to load and takes away the Fallout Launcher, then brings it back up again. There is no option for Settings and Betas in Steam for Fallout 4 on right click of the game in the Library.

Have tried:

-Ensuring graphics driver up to date

-Turning off GeForce Experience and Nvidia Backend

-Disabling Nvidia Streamer Service

-Run as Admin on Steam and Fallout specific

-Nexus Mod Manager doesn't exist yet for Fallout 4, so couldn't test third party launcher

Have also tried:

-Changing audio devices

-Changed graphics settings

-Renamed the preferences and save files in My Documents (fallout4original) which is now prompting the video test, but press play and the cycle starts over again, albeit with repeated video tests.

-Renaming the SteamApps common folder for reinstall while still retaining the original files so I can attempt to import saves; then using delete local content on Steam to enable reinstall

As there's no repair service to check file integrity, unknown where the corruption happened. System Information (MSINFO32) Windows Error Reporting details following error with Fallout 4:

11/10/2015 5:17 AM Windows Error Reporting Fault bucket 96036051, type 30 Event Name: RADAR_PRE_LEAK_64 Response: Not available Cab Id: 0 Problem signature: P1: Fallout4.exe P2: 1.1.29.0 P3: 6.1.7601.2.1.0 P4: P5: P6: P7: P8: P9: P10: Attached files: C:\Users\Mel\AppData\Local\Temp\RDRA386.tmp\empty.txt These files may be available

Memory error, most likely from windows update which snuck in last night and forced a reboot without knowing as the game took priority of the computer screen.

As there's no 21:9 resolution settings, I've been editing the ini file to get the game to go into full screen (both steam and my document/my games folder) which worked fine yesterday. Attempting to solve that problem via resetting to a 1920x1080 versus 3440x1440 didn't help, thus why fresh files required.

As of reinstall its still not loading even on stock settings with normal everything as though its a brand new install.
