Im having a little trouble installing oblivion, when i try to install the game i get the following error message:

***********************************************************************

An error (-5004 : 0x80070002) has occured while running the setup
Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed all other applications.

Error Code: -5004 : 0x80070002
Error Information:
>SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (3085)
PAPP:Oblivion
PVENDOR:Bethesda Softworks (http://www.gamesas.com)

I have installed it before without any problems but i recently switched to windows 7 and decided to re-install it, but i have no idea what the problem could be.

I'm guessing that you didn't get your earlier installation completely uninstalled.

Also, make sure you're not installing to the default location. Something like C:\Bethesda\Oblivion would be good.

Thats what i would have guessed too but there is no trace of it anywhere on my hard drive.

Also i dont get the chance to rename the installaiton location because i dont get to that point, i get the error as soon as the disc is preparing to install it, before i get to the licence agreement, directory ect, it isnt an install shield error either but an oblivion error.

Thankyou for the link, though nothing on it really solved the error.

That might be a problem with Installshield rather than OB specifically -- since it mentions other uncompleted installations --- try going to the c:\Program Files\Common Files\ folder and rename the Installshield folder that you find there to something else (ie. Installshieldold) and then retry the installer --- Sometimes the temp files from an install will not get deleted properly and the next time installshield runs it will error out - so renaming the folder will let the installer work correctly (if the folder is not there it will get created as part of the installation process)

Wonder if there are still some registry entries in there as well? If you stick the disk in, cancel the autorun thing..... navigate to the disk, and fire off setup manually, does it give you the option to UNinstall?
