Problem with morrowind's screen Resolution

Post » Sun May 18, 2014 1:04 am

So, after 6 years of playing the PC version (was originaly an Xbox player) , my Morrowind disk finaly stopped working. I just went and bought the steam version because i couldn't bear to not be able to play my favorite game.

Anyway, my problem is that no matter what i do, the screen is always shifted too far to the left, i have tried every resolution that my PC will allow (thats 800x600 all the way up to 1360x768) Not a single resolution has worked, i never had this problem with the disk version.

Things i have tried:

Disabling Steam overlay

Changing resolutions

Running as administrator

Running in compatibility mode

I might be wrong here, but i think you need to check the buttons on the right of your PC screen. press the second one from the bottom.

it's not the monitor itself since i can alt+tab out to the desktop and it appears fine but as soon as i alt+tab back into the game it is shifted to the left again

What your monitor's make and model? What is its native resolution?

You are going to need MGE or to manually change the resolution. By default Morrowind only supports a handful of non-widescreen resolutions so could cause over-scanning.

You need to be more specfic... Are you talking about a standard definition TV or a HDTV. Make and model would be helpful.

If its a SDTV then are you in a PAL or NTSC area

I'm finding it difficult to get information about your monitor/tv... What size is it? (ie. 19")

Usually when dealing with anolog signals (as with VGA) there would be a way to "Auto Adjust" to make sure the video is sized properly.

If you are having a problem setting Morrowind to the native resolution of the monitor, use MGE. Download link: http://sourceforge.net/projects/morrgraphext/files/Stable%20Releases/MGE%203.8/

Once installed, go to the Global graphics tab and at the bottom there is a option to manually set the resolution.

If you still cannot get it to work correctly, you can try windowed mode. Simply change the resolution to one less than 1360x768.

I know what's causing your problem, vaultboyt3. I have a TV I use as a monitor too.

What you're experiencing is a strange bug that ive found in many games, older ones especially. You switch to the game, and the screen is shifted, then becoems normal again when you alt+tab out, right?

While the game is running and in full screen, use your monitor's menu and tell it to auto-adjust. If its anything like mine, you'll only ever need to do this once to resolve the problem, and then never again. The game will start every time in the correct position, even after turnign the computer off.

I don't know why it works, but it does!
