Problem with the Forlorn Watchman

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 1:09 pm

I have been trying to progress in this quest for some time but I cannot get the ghost to talk to me.

I am playing on the Xbox 360, I have talked to the required people in the town and followed him to the point where he is looking out over the water but he will not talk to me.

Any Ideas ??

1. Reload?
2. He should turn and talk to you, after you have followed him. Sometimes there is a delay, between when he stops walking and starts talking.

Reload from where? I first saw the Watchman with this character some time ago. We have since completed approx 2/3 of the Mages guild quests, bought our first 2 houses and gone up about 14 levels.

I drop by every time I am in the area but nothing changes. We have previously spent a whole night there together looking out forlornly over the water. It was a very spiritual experience. We seem to be getting on so well but he just won't talk to me. I tell him stories and everything. I even brought along some Skoma one time in the hope that would liven things up but he wasn't interested.

What's the last entry in your journal for this quest? He won't talk a second time, so I'm wondering if the game thinks he already did.

The most recent entry says -

"The ghostly figure of the Forlorn Watchman has appeared on the shore of Niben Bay, Perhaps I should watch him for a bit and see what he does"

Well I have watched him and know what he does but he won't interact with me. Maybe he doesn't like short elves!

You should go to the boat Emma May and deliver him. He will then appear to you. At least try after a good save. Maybe also return to the owner of the inn to see if he will talk to you about the panther teeths.

EDIT: Are you standing right near him after you have followed him? I remember that the first time I had same problem as I was too far from him.

Close enough to pickpocket him if I sneak or to touch him if I just stand there. I get the indicator that I can interact with him but when I press the A button I just get a message that he will not talk to me.

I've been back to the innkeeper and a few others in town but they just have all the same messages that I have already found. The Questline seems stuck somehow and I am at a loss as to how to move it on. Should I go to the wreck or will that just upset things further?

I am currently in Leyawin and plan to pass through the area on my return to the Imperial City in a week or 2 (game time) so will probably try once more and if that fails I will just go on to the wreck - places to go, people to do and things to see don't you know.

OK. I reloaded a saved game. I went to the Silver House on Water in Bravil (sorry I don't remember quite well the exact name). I talked to the owner and then followed the ghost (Grantham Blakeley) until Fort Irony. THEN I did not approach him and went straight to the wreck of Emma May. Here I killed them all. But downstair the ghost of Gable the traitor was not there and therefore without his key, impossible to open the door. So I returned to Blakeley, saved again, and approached him. He turned to me and asked me to deliver him. So I returned again to the Mouth of the Panther and in the wreck, downstairs, the ghost with the key appeared. Killed him, took the small key and delivered Blakeley who appeared and left the map on the floor. I must add that when I returned to the wreck, before entering, I got the message related to the quest which I didn't get the first time. So now, try playing like that. Might work. If not there is a big bug... Let us know. Good luck..

HI,

tried all that - went to the wreck and got through all the bad guys, unable to get through the last door as the key was not there.

Went to Bravil and talked to most of the town, including the inn keeper at the Silver *whatever* (cant remember the name now lol). There was no new info and nothing about the "teeth of the Panther". I went back to the Watchman and he still refuses to talk to me. Getting paranoid now. I am sure he would talk to everybody else just not me.

Tried to put an arrow in him out of frustration but it just sailed right through him. Tried to hit him with a magical axe with the same result. He is bugging me now. I am sure he is ignoring me on purpose.

Going to have to go and kill some marauders - slowly - so I can feel better.

Cheers
