Problem with vanishing textures over time

Post » Fri Jul 18, 2014 10:51 pm

I really really hope someone can help me - I have this problem since a few months, without me knowing what I did to cause it. When I play for some time, meshes are starting to loose their textures, like this here:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/Ashemanu/Screenshot182013Kopie_zps5e5ca8c7.jpg

It starts usually with fur and weapons. Sometimes it will go away if I move to less graphic intensive areas, or the game crashes.

It startet after my game ran flawlessly for a few weeks (a marvel). Mostly it occurs in Riften (always the Bee and Barb, that builiding is inaccessible for me most of the times), Mistveil Keep, Helgen, Orphan Rock and surroundings, Falkreath, Dawnstar etc. Sometimes it takes long til the effect appears, sometimes it only takes five minutes playing (like loading a save and walking from Falkreath to Helgen).

What I did to make it better:

- deleting almost all texture mods

- unchecking the HighRes Texture packs from Bethesda (used them without problems for years before)

- unchecking Wet & Cold to reduce strain on the game

- going from ultra to high with my graphic settings

- Antialiasing and anisotropic filtering are off

- going back to the basic skyrim. and skyrimpref.ini with only very minor changes (like the 4GB memory thing)

- running the check and repair routine via Steam

- buying a new graphic card - call me devoted.

Obviously all this does not help. Only after the new graphic card it takes longer now to become violet.

I run the game on 8 GB memory with Windows 7 (64), a Sapphire Dual X R9 280X Graphic card and a multicore CPU

These are my mods:

I am very reluctant to change anything here, I tried before and it got worse (probably due to me being a noob regarding this)

And I am using a Sweet FX mod, by MannyGT.

I have absolutely no idea what I can do more to stop this texture problem. I would be very grateful for any help here. Thank you!

Do you use BOSS or LOOT?

It's the allocate memory bytes settings. Whichever guide you followed was written by an uninformed wannabe. You see, skyrim is a 32bit executable. The game is only able to address 4 gig of ram. It becomes unstable at around 3.2 gig usage. And that tweak you used allows the scripting engine papyrus to use up to 4 gig (in laymans terms). I hope you realize that this can not end well. It needs a single accidental hiccup in the scripting engine (it can happen even without any problematic scripts), and your whole game is messed up, because that one script basically eats all your memory. Depending how much your save game is messed up now due to all of this, you may need to start a new character after removing these ini tweaks to see any benefit.
Removing the cell buffer tweaks could also help to reduce strain on your system

Thank you!

I am using BOSS for now, together with the BOSS Userlist manager so that I can adjust load orders myself, especially for new mods.

So just deleting the allocate memory and cell buffer lines? I did not change the cell buffer values, they are from the original Skyrim.ini.

I think you dl'd a mod that some how added those entries under Papyrus, because I never had those under mine.

If you want something to test with here's mine(back up your original):

Change whatever fits your computer(my card is inferior to yours by a long mile haha)

As an alternative, delete Skyrim.ini and SkyrimIniPrefs(you'll have to redo some stuff) and let the game generate a new ini.

Those are definatelly not vanilla values. E.g. the vanilla exterior value is 36 and the interior one iirc a single digit number

Ok, I deleted the allocated memory line, and so far nothing bad happened. But I wasn′t in areas prone to pink meshes ... you are right, Gruftlord, the cell buffer values are not vanilla, I just checked. I changed the interior one back to 36 and deleted the exterior one.

I am still wondering if this is a mod causing it - but mostly I use these mods for a long time, and everything was fine til two months ago.

Hm, i think you should have put the exterior one to 36 and deleted the interior one.

If your rig is stong enough, the skripts will usually run fast enough to never use al the memory you allow them to use. But once in a while it happens. Without a tweak, the skripts will be slowed down for that time, until they can catch up again. With the tweak (and with such rediculous values) the skripts will first try to use more memory before slowimg down. If then important parts are bb unloaded from memory to make space for just the skripts, hundrets of random bad thing may happen. The bigger your save file, the more load on your system, the more bad thing already imprinted into the save, simply the older the character, the worse it will get.

This is why at first everything seems fine for a while with the tweak. It may even seem like the tweak was beneficial, because the scripts seem to no longer slow down your game. But you are basically driving a car without brakes.

I suggest you use the fast travel option for a bit to get to the problematic places in short order and see how long the game keeps up with this.
