Problems and solutions

Post » Mon Sep 20, 2010 9:01 am

I hear alot of people talk about things they hate about TES, about how this or that is game breaking. I'm not saying we should ignore the problems.

It's very easy to point out problems. What it's not always easy to do is to provide solutions. So let's help the devs out.

This thread is here not for us to whine, but to provide solutions for problems. Post something you hate, whether it be a gameplay mechanic, a bug, or anything about previous games that irks you, and provide a solution to the problem.

I'll start.

Combat music automatically alerts you to enemies as soon as they detect you. This is a pretty easy fix, make combat music start after the first blow has landed.

Psychic guards can be fixed by only making them alert to crimes when they are reported by a witness to the guards, or if the guards themselves witness you commit the crime, or maybe if they walk in on you standing over a body with a bloody dagger they'll haul you away.

I'm very interested to see what you all come up with! Post away! :user:

Combat music should start when the first blow is landed OR when you are looking in the direction of an enemy who knows you're there

If a mammoth or mountain lion etc. is charging me and I'm looking at them, there better be badass music in the background :whistling:

Don't have a set amount of money on each merchant, which is their limit for buying your stuff. Example: Merchant has a cap of 1000 coins. You want to sell 20 enchanted swords for 1000 coins. Even though the merchant has a cap... He'll only buy 1 sword each time. So let's save time by removing that silly cap.

Uhh.. That's all I can think about right now that I have not heard of Beth trying to fix.

Here's another.

I always found it annoying that you'd embark on a long and dangerous quest for somebody that really liked you and when you got back late at night and entered their house they threatened to have you arrested. Then they'd congratulate, thank, and reward you. Then their face would become distorted with anger again, and they'd begin yelling at you again.

If a NPC is expecting you, or has a high disposition with you they should welcome you in. Maybe have a knocking system in, like in the quest from FO:3 ( the one with the town on the bridge, can't remember the name. But you had to check on the residents.). You get two options if the door is locked. Pick the lock, or knock, and if they like you, or are expecting you, they'd let you in. Or if they hated you they'd tell you to buzz off.

1.The most irritating thing in OB was how the monsters leveled up with you. There was never a big challenge and never an easy one, and you'd feel like no matter how high you leveled it would be the same once you got there so whats the point of leveling?

2. I'd also like to be able to fight on horseback, its not hard to put into a game as I've seen it done a few times successfully :-)

3. OH AND... Multi-player, anyone???

Such a praise worthy topic!

Congrats. Constructive criticism and sensible feedback seems a raity

Maybe the mod'ers could focus on improving combat and general NPC ai. I didn't play Oblivion at the time. Were there any really good MODs that upgraded NPC AI to a belieable level?

Have a mass drop option such as a highlight and click for multiple lines of items in the inventory.

When taking or emptying Alch supplies, what a PIA! select item, how many of that item, confirm - repeat for the next line item.

It was probably done with mods, but I try to shy away from them, and I"m sticking up for the console fan!

First time I was playing Oblivion (intro to tes for me) I could not believe how good it was. Couple of years later i read on the forums that it svck. Level this and that.

I play it again, and man... now I hade to mod all the bad things out to be able to play it.

Don't read others opinions until you are through with games you play.

Kind of on topic.
