Problems finding servers ingame. - Multiplayer

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 5:00 am

Hello there!

Just having some problems finding servers either by searching or using the quickmatch system ingame.

I can login and register my CD Key fine but can get no further.

A search for servers results in the "An error occurred, please check your network connectivity."

I notice the game says that my NAT type is moderate.

I am running behind a university network and have managed to get all ports in the readme.txt open apart from TCP 80, which is unfortunately not availiable to be opened at my request.

I notice this is used by the game for the stats and the RSS feed. Consequentely the connection to the news server in the top right of the screen reads "unavailiable" at this time.

Does anyone know if the opening of this port is essential to the server search going ahead and if it is possible to change it somewhere within the game files?

Many Thanks,

Will.

It is possible since that you are on a university network that their firewall settings are blocking the needed ports. I have had a similar problem with my home network and I switched of NAT filtering altogether on my router.

But I dont think that will be possible for you unless you talk to the universities network admin and see can the port be opened.

Hope that helps.

The news server doesn't work because of a typo by Crytek.

I snooped with wireshark a "404 not found" from http://lb.crysis2.ea.com/.bdata/pc/rss-English.xml - this is why the news feed isn't working. Crytek shouldn't have capitalized the E - this works: http://lb.crysis2.ea.com/.bdata/pc/rss-english.xml

Edit: Since I discovered this it seems the news feed has been taken down entirely.

NAT type is bugged - when I put my PC in DMZ it still says "NAT Type: Moderate". When I put my PC in DMZ I still get disconnected from games, and I still get the error you are describing as well when it pulls up no servers. Most of the time I can see some servers, ping is listed as quite high (100+, most are 200+ or even 1000) yet when I join my ping is listed as about 30. But after 1-2 SECONDS my ping goes to 999 and I'm kicked.

Cheers for the reply as said in the first post, the university have opened the following ports for me:

UDP 27900
UDP 27901
UDP 29910
TCP 6667
TCP 28910
TCP 29900
TCP 29901
TCP 64100
UDP 64100

The only exception is TCP 80 which they won't allow. I'm just slightly confused since the readme may state that all that should be needed is TCP/UDP 64100, I may be misreading this.

Crysis 2 also uses ports like 64228 from my investigations.

Though I wouldn't bank on port forwarding being the solution to your issues. Have you ever been able to load up the server list? There are many things that could be blocking connections:
- Port scan/DoS anolysis at ANY node in the route between your computer and the game server
- Deliberate ISP throttling/blocking of specific "kinds" of traffic
- Firewalls on your computer, or your network - or even on the server's network (unlikely)
- Your network has an incompatibility with either UPnP or UDP hole-punching

Download the software at portforward.com and verify that the ports are being forwarded correctly.

Unfortunately I fear that in many situations, including my own, it is that some node out of my control is misinterpreting Crysis 2 as a UDP port scan attack. This would be the fault of the devs to not be able to work around this.
