» Sat Jan 08, 2011 9:24 am Specs: Intel Core i7 965, Asus P6TD Deluxe, Corsair XMS TR3X6G1600C7D, 3x Raptor X's in RAID 0, OCZ Vertex 30GB, LG GGC-H20L, 2x EVGA GTX 280s in SLi, Auzentech Prelude 7.1 w/OPA 637SM, Logitech G19 & G500, Samsung 245BW, & Intel CT Desktop Adapter. This is my system right now but I've had many upgrades from different hardware up until this point and still had most, if not all, of the listed problems on all my builds. I started under Windows XP 32-bit, eventually moved to Windows XP x64 (best "Windows" OS ever, IMO) tried it out under Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Retail (not beta or rc) for a while too. Problems occurred under all 3 OSes, with one exception. (SLi slowdown as mentioned below)
I am playing through the game and having all the same issues. I was hoping if I waited long enough I'd see patches fix this nonsense but it's like nothing changed except now I have DLCs and the same issues. Here they are: Random crashing-to-desktop while playing the game. Seems triggered by V.A.T.S. most of the time, either when first entering it or the moment before. CTD upon attempting to exit the game. Audio glitches in the form of a loud buzzing noise that gets louder and louder. Sometimes it stops when interrupted by other sound effects, other times I have to exit the game to make it stop. On some parts of the Capital Wasteland I get HUGE FPS drops. (for example around the Greener Pastures Disposal Site) I am talking 1 or fewer FPSes here! It's like a slide show. I couldn't figure out why these FPS drops were occurring but I found switching to single GPU mode would give me performance levels I would expect from a single GTX 280 and "fix" the problem, sort of. I did notice that under Windows 7 the SLi FPS drop did not occur! But the trade off is the CTD under 7 due to not being able to disable AGP Texture Acceleration. Also the HDR lighting is really screwy when walking around at certain times of day in the Capital Wasteland. It flickers in the most obnoxious way.

You may notice the line: "AGP Status: Disabled". Changing this fixed the crashing while playing the game. (so far...yay? should i need to resort to this though?) I, however, went to install Windows 7 Ultimate x64 but as with Vista I cannot disable AGP Texture Acceleration! So when playing under Windows 7 I get crashes with no way to stop them! If there's a way to disable AGP Texture Acceleration within Vista/7 I couldn't find it, as the options are absent from both OS'es DxDiag tools. (thanks M$!)
I had ALL these problems at the start with the first release of Fallout 3 and they all still persist! I am appalled that all or most of these glitches were not patched out by now. I format my system fairly often and keep my drivers and BIOSes up to date. My system is otherwise 100% stable and problem free.
So...are there any solutions to any of these problems? I am really upset that all these problems still exist. I searched the 'net for solutions but found very little other than the AGP Texture Acceleration disable fix. I think a bug fix patch is in order!
