problems when starting my new fallout 3 GOTY edition

when starting a new game after installation my game starts loading, then the screen goes pitch black and the folling message appears on my screen, "something has cuased fallout 3 to stop working windows will close this progam and notify you if we find a solution." its been 8 1/2 hous since then, please help me!

Post a dxdiag.
XP: Go to Start->run, type “dxdiag” and hit enter. Click the Save All Information button near the bottom right. This will save a Dxdiag.txt in C:\ by default. Then open the dxdiag.txt and copy/paste the information into your post.

VISTA/Windows 7: Go to Start->Search, type “dxdiag” and hit enter, click the Save All Information button near the bottom right. This will save a Dxdiag.txt in C:\ by default. Then open the dxdiag.txt and copy/paste the information into your post.

Try updating your Games for Windows Live software, apparently the version that comes on the disc is out dated. I couldn't get my GOTY copy working until I did that either. You can get it from Microsoft's website.
