Problems with bounty

I'm curious as to what has happened with my bounty.

I stole a horse from a stable so I could go from Skingrad to Kvatch to find Martin. So I had a 250 gold bounty. I returned to Skingrad for supplies after closing the Oblivion gate. I left the horse in a spot away from the stables so that I could get back to it without anyone seeing me. I took the horse again, and nobody saw. After taking the horse a second time, I specifically checked to make sure my bounty hadn't gone up. It was still at 250.

So I go to Kvatch. I do the Battle of Kvatch, and I grab Martin. We are on the road between Kvatch and Skingrad (I can't fast travel because I am a vampire and it is currently daylight hours) when a passing Imperial Legion Soldier stops me - and it says my bounty is 2250!! I'm thinking to myself "For what???" as my bounty was 250 before the Battle of Kvatch, and I did nothing that would get me a larger bounty.

I'm going back through some further saves... my farthest save back is in the chapel house, just before you storm the castle. My bounty on that save is 1250. So somewhere in the initial assault of Kvatch, I got 1000 gold added on to my bounty, and somewhere in storming the castle, I got myself another 1000 gold added to the bounty. Doing the Battle of Kvatch gave me a 2000 gold bounty!

Does anyone know what may have caused this?

If you accidentally kill soldiers during the battle, you will gain a bounty. This happens a lot with mages, as the ai for the game causes the NPC's to rush into battle, often getting in the way of spells.

yea. This is why some of us don't use in game companions. They keep jumping in front of our attacks. and then, well :flamethrower: :gun:

But I hear that many have the Adoring Fan as a companion.

Well, anyone who's met the Adoring Fan knows what happened to him... :obliviongate:

Characters that do the arena often have him stationed outside their homes. Nothing like coming back from walkabout to someone lighting your doorstep. :)

Yeah, the same thing happened to my goody-two-shoes paladin. We fought the Mythic Dawn outside Weynon Prior and in the chaos I must have hit somebody with a destruction spell or blade.
The next thing I know the Boots of Kynareth have unequipped. Lovely...
My bounty was way over 1000 too. :brokencomputer:
