Problems with created mods not working.

Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 4:42 am

Hello all,

I currently have a problem with the mods I am creating whilst following the Wiki beginners guide. I'm trying to unlock the cellar door in the Chorrol Oak and Crosier tavern - which i have done using the guide - but once i enter the game it still shows the door as being locked.

I open the TES: Oblivion CS.
Load the Oblivion.esm file.
Select ChorrolTheOakandCrosierTavern
Change the Cellar door to unlock and no owner.
I save the mod in Oblivion/Data folder
I close CS
Start Oblivion Launcher and tick the mod in the data file.
I load my game and find that the door is always locked.

I've had no pop-ups telling me to download a patch nor can I extract the files from the mod into the Oblivion/Data folder. i've checked some youtube videos and it looks like I'm doing what everyone else is doing to.

any help would be mucho apprecio.

Thanks.

Make sure when you load your game you're not in the same location, so it won't refresh.
Make next:

Load your game without that mod.
Then go to other location (for example enter any house).
Then leave oblivion.
Choose plugin in loader.
Load game and see again, it should be opened.
If not, then you'll need to wait till location refreshes, can't remember how many days you need to sleep.

Here's easier solution:

come to the door, press ~, click on door and type: unlock
it'll be unlocked.

Thanks for the reply but unfortunately it's still not working. I've even slept for a whole week and I'm still getting the same result.

One thing I didn't mention though was when i close CS, I get a message that sais:

Model loader still has 6 NIF files.
Continue playing?

I always press "yes to all" although I have no idea what I'm saying yes to.

I read somewhere that if you have visited location at you game - all doors locks will be stored in save, so adding a plugin to the save won't affect saved already doors, that means... start a new game and check that door, I guess it'll be opened in new game. Or if you have other save game where your character has never been in that location where you opened that door, you can use that save.

About model loader or whatever is it when exiting CS, I'm not sure what is it, but I had same problems sometimes, but it doing nothing really, so I think you can ignore this.

Still no luck :(

I've got a permanent save at the beginning of the game - just before you leave the sewers. I've tried using this save, I've visited the location, I've visited other edited locations and still nothing.

I consider myself to be a pretty solid problem solver but this is too puzzling for me. It doesn't make any sense.

Did you tried to make other plugins before and they worked? What's your Oblivion version and CS version?

This is the first plug-in I've created for Oblivion. I did move some objects around in weye Inn (not sure of the name) although I never loaded the plug-in to view where I had moved things.

I downloaded The Construction Set v1.2

I only have Oblivion. I dont have Shivering Isles or Knights of the Nine.

Maybe i should un-install the CS and download v1.0?

Doesn't matter you have SI or KotN or not, Oblivion version matters.
If your Oblivion version is 1.0.XXXX (don't know exactly), then CS v1.2 won't work properly, and of couse won't save changes.
So, yes, you had to DL 1.0 for 1.0 Oblivion.
But if you have 1.2.0416 version of Oblivion, then it's should be ok.

I have english version 1.0 and russian version 1.2, unfortunately I don't have english SI and KotN, so I making my mod in russian v 1.2 but using english esm of 1.0, and it working normal.
All you need is simply 1.2 Oblivion for CS 1.2, and if you have Oblivion 1.0, then CS must be 1.0 too.

Actually it's the other way round.
A pre-1.2 game will "silently ignore" ALL plugins created with a 1.2 CS. There will be no warnings, errors or anything.
Due to nowadays most (if not all) mods being created with a 1.2 CS it's a bad idea to "downgrade" your CS instead of "upgrading" your game. You will run into trouble with many other mods anyways with a pre-1.2 game.

Well.. if he doesn't have other way (not able to get Oblivion 1.2), then the only way is to downgrade his CS ;p

Are you running any other mods? Could there be something overwriting your change? If so, try changing your load order.

What would stop him from patching his game to 1.2.0416? There's an official patch for non-SI Oblivion - that's what I'm running. Suggest the OP patch his game. Get it http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/updates_patches.htm. Scroll down the page (the SI patches are listed first). You're looking for OBLIVION PATCH v1.2.0416. If you're not running the English US version, then scroll down for the proper version.

It sounds to me like there's an issue with version incompatibility. I also followed that tutorial at one point and had no issues. His basic outline of the steps sounds correct.

Confirmed! the problem was that I had the wrong CS downloaded.

I also took the advice to uninstall 1.0 CS, upgrade Oblivion and then the CS. Now everythings working like it should.

Thanks everyone for all the help!
