Problems with Cyrodiil Terrain Map Additions

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:22 pm

I've been using the Cyrodiil Terrain Map for a couple years now, and I love it. I recently found http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23140 and installed that. Unfortunately, something isn't working right - either my map doesn't change at all, or it looks http://project-phoenix.wikidot.com/local--files/files/map.JPG. Fearabbit has been working with me for the last couple days to help figure out what I'm doing wrong, but nothing's worked. I've tried:

Installing the new map only in the Textures/Menus/Map/World folder, where it's supposed to go (this results in no changes at all);

Installing the new map in the Textures/Menus/Map/World and Menus80/Map/World folders (this gives me the map you see above);

Resizing the map using Gimp to 1024x1024 and putting that in the Menus50 folder (doesn't work);

Sticking the new map in all three Menus folders (gives me a blank white map with icons).

I'm using Large textures and 1024x768 resolution, along with DarkUI. The original map, as I said, works fine (most of the time; rarely it'll be blank with icons, and often the game will crash when I try viewing the map, even if there are only a dozen or so icons - this is a recent development that I'm also trying to figure out).

So, with all that... does anyone have any suggestions?

Your "like this" link goes to the same place as the "Fearabbit's additions" one, so we can't see your problem (TESNexus "Cyrodiil Terrain Map Additions" link.)

Using Large textures and 1024x768 resolution will mean that the only relevant map to you is the one installed in Textures/Menus/Map/World (menus80 and menus50 are for smaller resolution/texture sizes) and should just be a simple (un-layered) DDS file.

I (of course;) ) use Elven Maps (as linked in my signature) so don't know about the Terrain Map versions per se.

All I can say is that I got the same problem. The map in the Menu folder seems not to be used. When I put it in the Menu50 or 80 it is used but ofcourse wrong size. Yes I use large textures too.

So for some reason something is pointing to the wrong folder.

Gah, there is so much strange things going on right now that I fear I will never work it out :(

Ack. Fixed it - thanks.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. Fearabbit suggested trying it in those folders, just in case my system was weird.

Are you using the original terrain map, or Fearabbit's additions?

I tried first with Kiwi's map with all the lands (with wyrms esp loaded last) but had the problem with missmatching map icons.
DL antiquated map with Elswyer on it - it is a normal map, not resized - should work in normal game.
Redated the map to 2099 and rederected the BSA.
But it did not use the menu map.

I am using DarkUIdarn and NiceOnes mapmarkeroverhaul, and in that I am using the part that miss match your location - I thought it might be that but haven't gotten around to testing, fixing other problems - this is far down... hmm let see.. problem number 76..... :meh:

Okay, first of all: Using Large textures doesn't mean the largest world map will be used. If you play on a resolution like 1024*768, the game will use the menus80 folder for all menus, including the world map menu. That means that it's very natural that changing something in the menus folder doesn't have any effect if you play on that resolution. (It also means that one should always mention one's resolution if there are problems with the menus.)

Second: The menus80 folder actually doesn't user smaller textures for most stuff. The visible part of the texture file will be smaller sometimes, yes, but the size of the texture is the same as in the menus folder. And the world map doesn't even have a smaller visible part of the texture; it's 2048*2048, just like the one in menus, AND it uses the whole width of that. So putting any map replacer from the menus folder into the menus80 folder should technically work.
I don't know why it seems to be otherwise.

vargr: Could there be any (technical) differences between the different map replacers that I'm not aware of? Cyrodiil Terrain Map Additions has the same size as other map replacers, so I don't understand why it looks so wrong for WalkerInShadows.

Right. 1280x720 wide screen. I tried putting it in the other folders and it shows up but at a askew setting and zoomed in. This is with both normal and esp needed map. I haven't looked further into the problem as I don't rely on my map that much.

Thanks for your info Fear.
