Problems with FPS optimizer and framerate on modern PC

Post » Mon May 10, 2010 2:46 am

Hi

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me in my predicament so I can start playing my Morrowind GOTY edition. I have been trying to get all the mods in and the game ready continually since saturday and not since Flight Simulator X have I ever had this much trouble getting a game going. I will not give up though as I really want to play Morrowind.

I am following the wordpress2009 guide and I have successfully installed all the mods with no startup errors and the only thing is that the game crashes when you try and exit but apparently that isn't a problem.

My problems are that when I downloaded and ran the fps optimiser last night it validated and worked correctly. Today when I got up the optimiser refused to work and kept saying it is not validated yet nothing has changed from last night, I have added no more mods and both times I ran as adminstrator. Any idea why?

My other problem is my framrates. I have

Q6600 2.4 ghz
4GB Ram
Gtx260 900mb video ram

Yet even with the optimiser I got poor frames outside.

With the optimiser I got 190- 240 frames in the boat at the start yet when I walked out the hatch and got outside they dropped to 7-10 fps which is crazy.

I am not using enbseries and I do not have any shader settings activated in mge which judging by so many posts I have read with people with older components than mine I should be able to use anyway.

Weirdly when I ran the game without the FPS optimiser today when I was in the boat the framerate dropped to about 125 but when I was outside it was a little higher, like 9-15.

Any idea what I can do about getting the optimizer to validate my exe and about my framerate? My hardware should easily be able to hold it to 30fps

Also, how well does it work without MGE?

My mod list (bear in mind I haven't even walked off the dock at the start yet, not even past the character creation screen)

Unofficial patch and code patch
visual pack 3.0
texture fixes and bloodmoon landscape overhaul
Tamrie rebuilt map 1 and 2
Silgrad tower
Annastacia v3.3
Better bodies, clothes, beasts.
Rens oblivion hair and vvadernfell visages
weapon replacers
Darknuts creature replaces 1024
enhanced sky
NOM
Mic item replacer, weathered signs and better books
Valities bitter coast and ascadian isles and standard grass mod
less lore
morrowind comes alive and tamriel rebuilt comes alive
living cities of vvardenfell and illuminated windows
where have all the brids gone and the seagull variant
water life and water seraphs
faster walk
interior weather
atmospheric sounds 3.0

Those are the mods I have which are the ones suggested and I have read of people using all of those mods and more plus enbseries and being ok with older hardware than mine. It seems crazy that I went from 240 fps to 7 just by going outside.

Yacoby: How do I deactivate and reactivate the MGE without risking messing anything up?

Try turning off morrowind comes alive and living cites of vvardeenfell first. Also what is the view distance.

For mge, there is a check box in the latest versions of mge that allows you to disable mge.

Sorry for not knowing much but is view distance set in the MGE or FPS optimiser and where is it, there is a number which is set at 1700 in the MGE, is that it?

I have been testing for a while and I have discovered..

Previously I had the morrowind.exe, the MGE and the optimiser running as administrator. I took the exe off administrator so that I could use xpadder with the game and suddenly my outside fps went up to 30-70 fps. When I put administrator back on they went down again.

As for the optimiser actually validating the game, before I had the "use constant fps" box unticked in the MGE because I figured that was the optimisers job but when I ticked the box the optimiser validated my exe but when I untick it it doesn't. Is that right as I thought the MGE was seperate? Is there any way to visually tell that the optimiser is working because I have never played the game before and it says it should be working but I am not sure as the frames with administrator off but no optimiser validation were very similar.

What does this tell me? What did not running the exe as administrator do?

Thanks for your help

I have no idea what the issue is, except that something in the background does not like morrowind being run in admin mode.

So it may not be an issue really, so long as not running it as administrator doesn't deactivate any of the mods I have? then it shouldn't matter. If I don't gain anything by running as administrator then I will leave it off.

On the offchance, the help manual for the fps frame optimiser that comes with the download is for xp only, is there a manual which I can look at on vista as I cannot find any through google?

You might have issues saving and loading unless the installation is moved somewhere else.

What you need for the manual is the viewer off Microsoft's website, I forget what it is called but it exist, I have it.
