Problems with the G.E.C.K.

Post » Sat May 15, 2010 1:57 pm

I recently solved the problem with the G.E.C.K. not saving my mods because of the administrator thingy and scince then when i start it up i get two warnings.

1. MODELS: Unable to load CTL file.

2. DEFAULT: Cannot load the stars.

Any help with this problem would be appriciated.

99% of us get random warnings when loading the geck, or into cells. And, like 99.999% of these can be ignored and disguarded. If it isn't stopping the geck from running, or you from modding, ignore it. Its when things are broken we anolyse these warnings and can sometimes find the problem.

The problem is that I can't see anything in the window. if I for example open vault 74 to keep modding on it I can't see any of the things that are there.

Ya, those two errors are not the "Ignorable" type. Does this happen with any mod, or just your own. I mean, do you get these warning when loading the GECK or loading the mod? You might want to try reinstalling the GECK to your fallout folder. Or even better (although more time consuming) reinstall the game and the GECK to a folder outside of Prograsm Files - like C:\Games\Fallout3. That will get rid of any and all UAC issues.

I get the warnings when the GECK is loading when i start it. And a problem about reinstalling the game is that my brother has it. I can try reinstalling the GECK and then see if it works.

Cannot load the stars means that it cannot see fallout3.esm and its files.

I have XP so, I can't speak to the step nescessary, but isn't there some compatibilty files or security option for either the fallout3.exe or the folder that will allow other programs to access the fallout3 files? It sure sounds like the GECK is not being permitted to use certain fallout3 files. So installing the whole thing (game and Geck) to c:\Games should fix it up short of figuring out how to bypass the folder/file level security.

Those errors usually mean you did not install the GECK in the same folder you installed the game. (or the same folder your system registry files 'think' your game is installed)

Oh sorry, I thought you meant these were errors when loading your mods, and were ignorable. But if when starting the geck, thats really bad. Make sure its in the same spot as fallout 3 and you didn't delete any Fo3 files at somepoint on accident.

It is in the same file as the original game and all the files are in the right place. Thanks for all the help anyways. I'll try reinstalling the game and the GECK when my brother visits us at home again next time.
