Procedural Destruction

Post » Fri Jul 29, 2011 11:09 am

I've finally gained the energy to make a thread about this.

Graphics are fantastic. DX11 patch made my day.

Where's the procedural destruction advertised in the trailer?
Alright, glass is procedural destruction. How about that little red-striped concrete block? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFEJVszWg18, 1:05) Thought you could destroy that. Obviously not.

This leads me to ask, why would you remove all this content?

they do have some destruction. try firing rockets at poles you'll see some of the cements come off and the steel poles inside are exposed. but you ultimately cannot destroy the pole.
the destruction is more cosmetic rather than realistic.

PS: lol i notice i posted 69 times :P

I know, but nothing like what was advertised in the trailer.
Checked the Mod SDK documentation, there was nothing about 3D procedural destruction.
At least include it in the editor please.

Crysis 3 better live up to its promises. Crysis 1 in CryEngine 3 would be awesome. I liked the original suit modes and the variety of things you could do to the enemy soldiers. I liked the setting. I liked the freedom. I liked the way you could carry two rifles and a sidearm. Crysis 2 boxes you in, and the multiplayer has become Call of Duty: Crysis edition. I don't give a damn about weapon balance (SCAR with silencer? SCARAB with assault scope?), or "the suit is a weapon". I wanted Power Struggle back. I wanted more vehicle combat. I wanted to do something stupid like put a sniper scope on my shotgun.

But, the graphics are the best I've ever seen.

I want an official reply from Crytek as to why lots of cool stuff was removed

Certain objects can be completely destroyed, some partial destruction, some invulnerable.

Some trees can be cut down. Some concrete blocks can be destroyed. glass of course. Partial damage to a fair bit more, though it does seem like it was a lot less than i expected. It rather amusing when a tree falls down at the end of a fire fight. The fact that you have to hunt down what objects can be destroyed raises questions about their inclusion.

I've found that events in single player show the destruction the best, like the bridge colapse or building colapse.

I do concur about vehicles, in multiplayer they are map hazards rather than vehicles;

Eg: For throwing at people
Eg: for becoming a landmine, when people get to close and it explodes.

The bridge and building collapse are scripted. Only glass and trees are procedurally destroyed, and the dead trees disappear in about 5 seconds.

Thats why I said event, scripted destruction works very very well XD.

I've seen tries lie on the battle field for some time.... though it does feel like a token feature. On skyline, on the roof, the wooden panels can be blown out too.

I am trying to think, where did I see a concrete block being completely destroyed. hmmm it was somewhere surprising. Finding things that can actually be destroyed is like an easter egg hunt.
