Proffessions

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 4:30 am

For my fellow roleplayers out there, don't you wish you could do things such as jobs/proffessions? Find a deer hide? Make a hat. Find correct ingredients in the forest? Brew some beer. Small things like that. Also = Jobs. Job job jobs. I want to work as a Bartender, but any jobs for gold.Oh and don't criticize me about this, remember; I make these polls for the public, taking no stance on either side...*Cough* pro-jobs *cough*. Thirdly, I WANT MY OWN STORE. I want to be able to run a store, have customers walk in and request an item for a certain price, if I have sed item they get it. Customers will walk in my store because it is labeled as a certain type of store. For instance, my store will be a potions store. Example: Graz-gro Mugroth walks into Ancotar's Pots! looking for a strength increasing potion. She walks up to the counter (Or whereever you are) and engages conversation, immedietly asking you if you have sed potion. You will then be given a choice to choose what price you try to sell it for (If you have the item, otherwise the npc will leave the building). If you sell it for an outraegous price, you will most likely not make a sale (Unless your skill is really high!). Discuss and vote.

Um ... isn't this why people play The Sims? I have to say no to the first two polls and maybe to the third. Owning a Mead Hall (like in Bloodmoon) would be interesting. Having to do a job when I'd rather be out exploring caves and wilderness' would not be fun at all.

i've never played a SIMS game but they look LAME. plus having a job in an RPG could satisfy people who would like that feature. :)

If you're going to spell out a word in the thread's title, at least try to spell it correctly.

It would be nice to hang in the world without being only a fighter or whatever. Owning a shop or a tavern would be great =)

I'd like to be able to part-own a store, I guess. It wouldn't be so fun if it suffered because you were away raiding dungeons or doing quests though, because isn't that the whole point of the game?
What I'd like is to be able to sell things I made (like potions) for a price I set, not the price some greedy merchant wants to pay.

So perhaps instead of owning a store, you could set up a partnership with a NPC who does, pass your bits and bobs onto them and they could sell them for you for more than you would get just selling them to a normal merchant. Your 'business partner' could also tell you what's popular and what isn't, so some stuff would sell better than others. It could be like an ongoing miscellanious quest.

I voted no for one primary reason: How do you make jobs fun, and by fun I mean "not like Fable's pathetic click-timing mini-games"?

How do you make it fun to operate a loom all day long? How do you make it fun to herd and sheer sheep from sun-up to sun-down? How do you balance occupations with the fact that your character will frequently f--- off for a week at a time to climb a mountain, slay a dragon, clear out a bandit cave, and haul home bags overflowing with loot.

I like to make potions and sell them as my 'profession', so I wouldn't complain if there were some game features to legitimize that but obviously its not for everybody so as someone above said, something like the mead hall in bloodmoon would be cool.

Yes, yes, yes. Honestly, in my opinion the more content the better - especially when it comes to the things that define people - like jobs. The choices to play a more relaxed game and play a more complete role are two that will be vital to keeping the game from slipping to a casual sword-flailer game.

Can I sell my body for Skooma? If so then yes, I would like to take up a profession.

Would love to be able to buy stores and houses, and JOBS YES YES YES YES JOBS. This is what I always wanted! The ability to make money without stealing or murdering people for no reason!

All TES games assume your character has an occupation --> Adventurer. By fate or by choice, that is what your character's job is.

The Elder Scrolls were more of a "go punch something in the face and take all of his stuff" game instead of "go be a professional farmer" game to make money. Branching out kinda feels like you're taking away a part of the game's identity.

If you want to make Enchanting include scroll making and completely re-work alchemy so it's a bit more user friendly, then that's cool. But my Khajiit being referred to "Farmer J'Zad" just sounds... wrong.

I'm not interested in owning stores or having jobs. Id rather be able to do stuff like go fishing / sailing and craft things like pies and boats and traps and lure monsters into taverns.

Everything you just described is a job.

I actualy agree with everyone in this thread.

I want jobs/professions because as an ideal it sounds very nice to have the extra income/break in gameplay ( even tho I love tes, I sometimes apreciate the ability to do things that dont invole killing something)

I just feel like right now its never been implemented in a way that makes it any more than a hindrance. But on the other side of that coin someome has to be the first to do it, it would be sweet if it was bethesda

i would like to have ownership of a store but i dont want to have to run it to get money out of it. what i have suggested before is to have a partnership with current store owners and reap a % of goods actually sold at the store. i DONT want to gain a set amount every five minutes like in fable. i want to be able to go out for a week of fun and adventure, stop into town and check my shop im invested in. there should be a chest that i can activate and will give me my % of items physically sold out of that store.

later when i buy a house(s) i would like to buy a enchanted chest that will gain my % for me out of all my invested stores so to gain my money all i have to do is go home and activate my chest.

to balance things out i would like shops to cost different amounts based on how profitable and how successful they are. for instance a potion vendor who sells out of a small shack might ask 500 septems for his partnership. i probably wont make much off of his shack but i could expect maybe 20-50 septems every couple of days.

a famous sword smith may ask 75,000 septems and i could see 100-1000 septems every couple of days depending on business.

No jobs, jobs are boring, as fable has proven. it's an exception of course with jobs like "hitman", but that's not the kind of jobs we are talking about. you should, however be able to purchase a stand in the market and sell your goods. A store would be nice too, but i think just a small stand would be just as good. you could even lay out your items and, depending on the item, an NPC might be me drawn towards your stand (i.e. a lumberjack would be drawn to a stand with axes).

The same could be done with an actual building instead of a stand, but i would just rather be outside i guess.
