"Program is too big to fit in memory"

Post » Fri Oct 30, 2009 5:31 am

Hi,

I run this game comfortably on my laptop Vaio fitted with 4096MB RAM and a dedicated Nvidia Geforce GT330M 2769MB
the problem is when I try to run it on my main desktop PC, fitted with 4GB RAM (4GB installed - DXdiag shows only 3326MB RAM), I get the following error message in a DOS box, after launching it from Steam:
"program is to big to fit in memory"
tne the DOS box closes and I revert back to Steam.

I know Vista only sees 3326MB RAM, but this is beyond the minimum requirements anyway...By the way, my gfx card on my desktop is a Geforce 8800GTS with 2022MB, and the same problem occurs after udpating its drivers to the lateste ones (8.17.0012.7061 - 08/04/2011)

Any idea?

Many thanks in advance

I don't know if you're talking about the same thing but why are you trying to run the game in a DOS emulator?

Anyway, as I await your answer, the reason as to why your Windows only recognizes 3.3 Gb of ram even tho you have 4GB is because you are running on a 32 bit Windows version. If you want to use the full 4GB memory capacity you will have to switch to the 64 bit Windows because the 32 bit version can only use and thus detect up to around 3.3 GB of RAM.

It's suggested to use the 64bit OS when you have more then 3GB of RAM because it boosts your computers performance.

no, I'm not trying to run it in a DOS emulator
I just said that I was launching the game in Steam, and getting a DOS window appearing with the error message inside.

Any way to cut the story short, I deleted the local game content in Steam, and resintalled all the games file,and....... tada!! Brink now runs without problem..
Conclusion: with games downloaded from Steam, part of the problem solving I'll always include is to reinstall the game.

Problem solved, case closed
