Excuse me. But what is progression content?
Sorry to ask. But, I ran a casual guild and even us in the leadership had no idea, what that meant when people talked about progression.

This is my point and i think the OP's point as well. Personally , IF ASSUMING the OP is right about end game content being repeatable any number of times a day, then personally I dont see it occupying people on the long run as well, at least not enough to continually pay 15 dollars a month for it. Like it or not there as to be some form of content to keep people coming back week after week. And if there isnt , then worst case scnario this game will go free to play.
You'll hear something along the lines of a never-ending difficulty ladder. It translates to a never-ending gear-treadmill for people that get excited about adding 0s after their numbers and ignore power creep inflation.
Because unfortunately there aren't that many GOOD and simultaneously PURE High Fantasy MMOs...You must remember the setting as well.
In my own opinion...WoW has been ruined by "steam punk" stuff or whatever. I LOVED Eberron because it had a dash of steampunk flavor. Mmm, yummy.
WoW has taken that steampunk container and shook it so hard the game has lost its fantasy identity. Tanks, planes, atom bombs, machine guns and giant gundams running all over the place. It's lost that magic of Human Footman clashing against Savage Orc warriors. Now it's Human Footman with Dwarven Riflemen and Gnome Aeroplanes bombing Savage Orc warriors with Goblin Shredders shooting machine guns and Blimps with atom bombs attached
You can't forget about setting. Something like Wildstar or Star Wars MMOs doesn't appeal to some people (like me) because who gives a crap about space? I want Elves and Swords and Magic and Wizards! etc...
I also want it to be -high quality- and -good-...
Have you ever played Skyrim?
In Skyrim the instanced dungeons are repeatable, so the fact they might be in this game means nothing.
Just because something is repeatable doesn't mean you have to do it a second time.
That is called Diablo and some people still play Diablo 2 to this day, and many play Diablo III
Hmm you said good and WoW in the same post. You're not convincing me you are making a sound argument here. There are tons of fantasy MMOs out there, this is not a generic fantasy MMO, it's for a specific game with a specific playerbase. The best idea would be to make it appealing to said playerbase and not the people who show up for a few months and then jet.
Exactly....Im going to play to enjoy the game, will I get bored? No... people don't get bored because they get bored, they CHOOSE to be Bored... as for Wildstar, its just a team fortress with slightly better but cartoony graphics..and im Judging the game because of that, The gameplay may or may not be Great, I don't know and im not going to look into it.. Im like Judge Judy only a man, if I Judge a game by its graphics, then hey, That is what I go by and that is how it is, I don't care what it's gameplay is like, that isn't the issue for me "see, just like her attitude" lol
There is still an investment on your part to play the game, whether it's a one time fee or a sub.
I'll just have to disagree that progression content is the only thing that makes an MMO successful or keep people playing. I don't raid at all yet I did play WOW for years and went back to SWTOR multiple times as well. It is entirely possible (and even, proven) to have an MMO without raiding being the focus of the game.
And all that is assuming these Trials are exactly what he's assuming based on one sentence from the very first reveal we've ever heard on them. I still think this is a lot of argument over stuff without any real knowledge.
little late in the development game to be this now
The game is not out yet.....
THATS ALL FOLKS!
True but this and threads like it serve to pass the time
Indeed, I used to raid in the earlier days in WoW, until it started getting silly, with achievements and add-ons.
But I don't need raiding to enjoy a game.
It's like saying a fish and a duck become friends and played in the lake and everything was all ok and then all of a sudden a big loaf of bread come and hit them both on the head.
Moral of the story you may ask?
If you Eat a loaf of bread each day, Then you eat a loaf of bread a day.
And that children is the end of that.
16 hours a day raiding! I need an aspirin just thinking about it. Your post really hits a truth that I think resonates with those of us who have years of experience with these games and their mechanics.
have you played Morrowind? These days the graphics would be considered crappy, but it's a really good game. Everytime I switch to a lower graphics game it takes adjusting to, but it's worth it. Most of the good games aren't the ones that are top end graphics or are being released just now. Not to mention all the awesome Steam games out there that are low graphics but incredible gameplay.
While your silly sentence fits your avatar quite nicely, it's more like a fishing farm charging you 15 dollars a month to fish there but the catch is there are only 20 fish in the entire farm. The fish farm owners argument? Take your time, enjoy the experience, the journey. It's not my fault if you catch all 20 fish within the first month, I'd still love for you to fish for a year or more.
If they give us solo trading options, because right now SOLOERS left outside!! And soloers are the best crafters. Guilds care about their guildm8s more and the others are comming seconds... Soloers care about their pockets....
I agree with you.. Heck, I spend 8 hours a day playing Space Engineers and sometimes 2-4 hours a day playing Kenshi.. LOL
Morrowind was one of my favourite games.
Graphics and combat in todays standards aren't very good.
But it was still a masterpiece
