Progression of Skyrim screenshots

Post » Fri Oct 22, 2010 8:58 pm

Take a look at this screenshot: http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/galleries/2011-01-10/game-informer-skyrim-shots/game-informer-skyrim-shots_1294673248.jpg

Now take a look at this screenshot released a couple months later: http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/8959/skyrim02.jpg (apparently this is lower res. than the actual, I couldn't tell.)

The second one looks a lot better doesn't it? In just the short time since Skyrim has been announced, the graphics seem to have continually gotten better, and the games release is still months away.

Do you think Skyrim will look even better than these recent screenshots when it finally comes out? Or do you disagree that the quality of Skyrim's graphics has progressed at all since its announcement?

I highly doubt this is "progression". The game is not in the early stage some people here think it is. It means different screenshots in different resolutions.

Also, the first screenshot is not pure. Its a pic of a magazine scan or something.

I don't think the graphics look any better since the game has been announced, it's just that we're starting to get really good looks at the game nowadays. By the way, thanks for posting that screenshot. I haven't seen it before. It looks amazing. Almost like the forest near my town.

I think most of the screenshots thus far have been fairly low-quality magazine screens taken on the 360, so it's hard to judge the graphics too much.

The finished product will look a lot better.

The only difference I noticed is how more awesome the game looks.

Choose different screenshots, it looks like you've posted scans.

The second one hasn't even been put on teh interwebz yet has it?

Wow, I hadn't seen that second pic yet. I'm impressed. It's no Crysis, but it's close.

graphics aren't on par with Crysis or BF3 at a technical aspect, but the art-style/direction is easily superior.

Srsly, http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/1589/skyrim01.jpg is just gorgeous art.

And remember, that's apparently a low res. shot, and it's only on the 360.

I'm thinking that's in the volcanic tundra region.

On the shot of the house on the cliff it looks as though there is some http://youtu.be/NKNydSVunbE?t=16s on the rock pathway. I don't know if this is possible on the 360 as I thought it was only for DX11. If so then I think they are doing far more detailed rock placements this time around :)

What's tessellation? How can you tell? Honestly, I didn't think that was as good as the other screenshots recently released. Still amazing though.

Those are two very different pictures in different settings with none of the same objects or anything. Frankly, I don't see how you can compare the two enough to see any real improvement. It'd be another story if you were comparing two shots of the woods, or two shots of the frost troll.

Might be due to compression, but the second shot seems to have some more anti-aliasing and is overall slightly smoother looking. (especially in the leaves)

both forest shots. one old one "new".

Looks awesome! Reminds of me of Rohan from Lord of the Rings, both the architecture and the surroundings.

Graphics do not progress in the manner you are suggesting. One is a low resolution scan of a small image on a magazine page, and the other is a screenshot from GI's online preview of their magazine.

The second image was resampled to a higher resolution.

exactly, they took a smaller image and blew it. There's more pixels representing the same amount of information, so your basically just making the image blurry.
