Project Tamriel

Then crack open the CS and start having a go. You should learn most things quite quickly really, plus, there are a shed load of tutorials to be found around the place. There is even a list of tutorials at the top of the Morrowind Modding section here at the BS Forums. All pretty basic just starting out stuff which should be perfect for you. And when your feeling a bit more confident about your abilities in the construction set then you may like to make a showcase for one of the three Province mods currently in progress.

Go for it Steve! There aren't many begginer tutorials around but I found http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/?p=modding_data/tuts/dsong/first_room§ion=0 which basically starts right at the beggining and will teach you enough to join a province mod as an interior modder.

The only advice I can really give is to go for it! All province mods (I believe) use a showcase system where you need to demonstrate your modder skills. So, for example, if you want to become an interior modder you have to build a single house to the necissary standards. However, even if you're not sure you're good enough, I would just recommend you go for it because you will learn a lot from the improvements suggested about your showcase.

*facepalm*

You said we should wait till TR is finished before starting another province, so he was being sarcastic and pretending he was just going to wait...
Come on man, that was obvious!

And I was pointing out there was no need to actually wait at all. Still, pointless post is pointless.

So how is the map going to work if we have a province like Summerset Isle that is on the other side of the continent? Will the user interface be able to handle it? Will we be able to use our mouse to drag the map over to see it? Because right now, just having Tamriel Rebuilt, the whole province of Morrowind fills up the entire screen.

I'm guessing MCP's map fix feature will be expanded as more province mods are completed.

Yeah, but if they do it like they did the map exspansion for Tamriel Rebuilt, we'll barely be able to make anything out on it

Not likely - read Hrnchamd's last response on http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1114812-repairing-the-cogs-of-morrowind-21/page__view__findpost__p__16366669. In any case, by the time all these province mods actually get released, who knows what iteration of the MW engine we'll actually be running them on.

Wait, isnt this now duplicating something thats already being worked on? Project Cyrodil is making that province but I see it here. Or something else?

This started out with a series of height maps for each of the provinces of Tamriel. The people at Project Cyrodiil (which recreates only one province) are very much aware of its existence, judging from the posts in this thread. I am not sure if they also use/have used the height map provided the OP, though.

Hey, I know what you're talking about. If I were to join a province team, I would join TR because Morrowind mainland is the most important imo due to it's proximity to Vvardenfell... but I think some people just have trouble getting motivated about the mainland. Some people feel much more creatively charged about other places in Tamriel. If a bunch of unmotivated people tried to help TR build mainland, the end result might not be as good as the current passionate and dedicated team you guys have right now.

Yep. And I imagine that once the main TR team is finished with TR and it's quests, they will, if they choose, diver their attention to other province projects. Or maybe just take a break. I personally don't even think we should be working on Argonia since we know nothing of what it looks like. I mean, imagine if a modding team had taken up the project to make Morrowind had TESIII not be set there, but in like, Hammerfell let's say. The only sources they would have would be the Arena map. That's just my opinion, which is why I think Skyrim project should wait until TESV is released. Their project is probably missing some important landmarks and settlements; things that they had no idea existed in the Skyrim province. Just my opinion. I'd like to help with P:C and TR but I'm busy with PE at the moment.

Following in Bethesda's shadow would be boring, and is in no way what P:C represents either. Don't worry about it, we're modders for god's sake, just let us have our fun. ;)

Tarius, that Cyrodiil is the same one we work on at PROVINCE: Cyrodiil. We are well aware of what Super-Naut is doing and fully support his heightmaps (especially since we use one :P ). The whole aim of this project is to make the province mods fit together. The borders with mainland Morrowind will be the toughest to match together using all of the current province mods while Skyrim and Cyrodiil will be able to match almost perfectly with a little bit more work as the landmass itself was all created by the same person.

The maps aren't 100% complete as far as hills and such go, but the shape of each province is.
I can easily load all of Tamriel's land in the game without a problem. Including Yokuda, Thras and Pyandonea. It's only when you try and create distant land for all of them with MGE it gets a bit tricky. Patching the EXE with the 4Gb patch helps, but you still cant create distant land for all of them.

I've managed to create distant land for High Rock, Skyrim, Valenwood, Elsweyr, Solstheim and Vvardenfall all at once.

At the minute im working on finishing the heightmap for Skyrim - Home of the Nords, then I'll continue working on the rest.

The break thing seems most likely. A definite one. Whenever we're done with mainland Morrowind we will not start work on another region, at least that is our current view. After restarting 80% of the exteriors a couple of years ago we're currently working on areas known by old terms as map 5. If we keep our current pace we might start working on map 6 claims by December this year.

But after exteriors comes interiors, and then NPCing and questing, and THAT takes time since we're not over populated in that departement. Playtesting, both ext/ints and NPC/quests take time as well...
