Project Tamriel

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 9:30 pm

Not necessarily, if someone is willing and has alot of free time to get a team together and start on a province now, I will more than gladly give them an ESP containing the land.

What I don't like on the general idea of Project Tamriel is that everyone with a bit of free time could work on a provience of his choice, no matter of his experiance and his skill, esspecially on Exteriors...if there is no showcase and quality standard and no administration that control everything, give detailed instruction how the terrain should look alike and makes critical reviews it will end up in a mess...I have doubts that there are enough skilled and experianced modder are out there to work on many proviences at the same time...but that's just my personal opinion, others may see it different.

I won't tell you how you should handle your project...just don't forget that quality work need motivated, skilled workers and not a noobie who can barely handle the Construction Set.

I agree 100%.

Like you, I don't want to see half arsed provinces. As I have mentioned before, I won't give away height maps to people who are unwilling to put in the effort to make quality work that is needed for the provinces. I myself am very happy with the way the completed regions of Skyrim look, and I hope whole heartedly that the rest of the provinces made will be of equal quality.

No, I'm serious now, we should at least wait till at the very least TR is finished before starting another province. There are a finite amount of people willing to work on province mods, and to spread them across projects will end up in very little being done overall. And bare in mind it'll also be easier to make a province when you have the border clear and finished.

Having said that, High Rock would be fun... :whistling:

Lestat you are confusing me since you yourself are working on a province that is not TR and as such are in opposition to the statement The Greatness made (Which is in error I might add as there are plenty of us who can work on multiple things at once and with the quality required. There are also those who won't work with other people directly for one reason or other but have the required skill and can therefore be on another province team doing just as exceptional work. The community is larger than you think especially if you base it off the posters on this forum.) Also if we wait for projects to finish before starting more it would take an eternity to reach the end goal, TR has been around for forever mind you.

What I meant (and I guess The Greatness meant the same if I not totaly misunderstood his statement cause he talked about starting new proviences and not about existing projects) is that it make less sense to start more and more provience mods at the same time with a limited number of potential modders out there...unfortually it isn't 2002 anymore and Morrowind is aged...a lot of old Morrowind Modder went to Oblivion or other games or have quit modding completely.

At the moment we have

Tamriel Rebuild
Skyrim
Provience Cyrodiil
Argonia

and I have strong doubts that it make sense to open a fifth proviece WIP at the moment, cause the number of potential modder will not increase by opening more and more WIP's.

Ah, now this makes sense, and is not disagreeable at all. I dont think that was the Greatness' pov but if it is then he should word things in a better manner so as not to be misunderstood instead of coming off like only TR should be around atm.

So, should I just have a seat right over there and pick up a magazine?

Hey, I know what you're talking about. If I were to join a province team, I would join TR because Morrowind mainland is the most important imo due to it's proximity to Vvardenfell... but I think some people just have trouble getting motivated about the mainland. Some people feel much more creatively charged about other places in Tamriel. If a bunch of unmotivated people tried to help TR build mainland, the end result might not be as good as the current passionate and dedicated team you guys have right now.

Enzo is exactly right. Apart from that, it is important that people mod what they want to mod as this really is just a hobby.

Ahmen. If someone wants to work on another province then fair play to them.

Currently discussing some design ideas with Monkey on Google Wave in regards to the project website development. Hopefully a release of the site should not be too far off.

I could potentially develop a site myself, especially since this is sort of connected to Province: Cyrodiil anyway. If anything I could provide a place to host the site ad-free.

You could... join one of the existing province mods? I completely fail to see your point.

How did you do that?

And "TheGreatness", if that is indeed your real name. <_<

All the place names are from Arthmodeus's map of Tamriel. Something wrong with them?

You said we should wait till TR is finished before starting another province, so he was being sarcastic and pretending he was just going to wait...

One of the nice aspects of TR is the quality control. They really make sure that what goes in is top-notch. In a lot of cases, better than the original. So far, what I've seen of Skyrim is shaping up the same way, though I don't believe we have seen any interiors yet.

I know modding is a hobby, and if it becomes work, people get tired of it - but by the same token, if you don't expect quality, you won't get it. I wouldn't mind seeing the idea of claims, requiring workmanship samples, and periodic updates becoming the norm for big mods like this.

Also, TR is coming along. Sure, it's slow, but it is remarkable how much is already done.

Well in at least most cases interior work in Skyrim is on par with that of TR, since I and at least one other interior worker do the interiors for both projects. All of your other points are at least in theory at work in Skyrim and Province: Cyrodiil as well.

No. Just wondering if they were canon or fan-made. Seeing as there are so many I assume he made most of them up, although they'de make a very good basis for a province mod (looking at http://www.imperial-library.info/maps/minibigmaproadslore31gv.jpg one).

That MGE pic was pretty awesome Bahamut.

The names are originally from Arena and Daggerfall.

That land texturing looks useful for road and town placement, SGMonkey.
