Project Tamriel

Project Tamriel

Project Tamriel is a community based project aimed at re-creating the provinces of Tamriel one by one.
Each province has been made to scale and position according to Arthmodeus's Map as a base for adding everything else (the maps are meant as a guide to where the regions are situated and the shape of each landmass) I am now in the process of creating better height maps which include hills and mountains, if any one would like to help out please feel free to let me know :)

http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/ae229/SG-Monkey/Heightmaps/Morrowind2010-08-2602-53-21-64.jpg

I will update the OP with video's and images of the finished maps

I am aware of two minor problems that occur with this project.
Being so far away from 0, 0 does decrease point accuracy, but this only has an effect on the PC, NPC's and creatures. And the only effect it has is that they may occasionally appear a bit glitchey. But in my opinion it's hardly noticeable.
And im sure this would more than likely be fixed with improved graphical engine, such as OpenMW

As far as i am concerned there are no problems with collision, spell collisions or path grid's. Tilesets such as walls all appear to fit together nicely just as they do on the island of Vvardenfell.

The only other problem I am aware of is that a project like this is quite an undertaking :)
So it will more likely take several years for each province to be completed or at the very least released.
However that is a golden opportunity for everyone to get involved :D

So please, if you have any concerns with anything else you think may be a problem, please let me know.

As far as the region painter being black, I always get around it by clicking on the header of the region painter and pulling it down off screen, then bringing it right back up. Fixes it for me.

And as far as randomly placed grass being part of the esm/esp, if you want MGE to animate it then you dont have to worry about it because the grass has to be placed in a second esp no matter what.

I know what you mean about the region painter, but that doesn't fix it atall. I've managed to fix it before on several of the imported plugins ive made, but it seems to happen on every import, for reasons unknown to me.

And yeah I already know about the grass being in a separate ESP, its a better way of doing it no matter how you look at it :)

Currently discussing some design ideas with Monkey on Google Wave in regards to the project website development. Hopefully a release of the site should not be too far off.

I started work on the castle ruin tileset yesterday, and when I got a chance today continued work on them. But then after finishing the 6th .nif, I realised it was the crypt tileset instead.

Anyway, I've just finished the first castle ruin .nif, and now it looks like I'll be making the crypt tileset after I've completed all of the ruin tileset. :hehe:
edit: btw, I know, there's no need to tell me.... I'm an idiot... =P

POLITE NOTICE
Please everyone, I don't want to hear any talk like "being so far away from "0,0" will cause problems" ...

Okie doke, so ignoring the elephant

But wouldn't it be easier to stymie questions on the issue by addressing it up front and foremost so that there aren't questions to ask? Saying don't ask about the elephant will at best make everyone stare at it.

Well to be honest mate, yes and no.

Being able to address the issue would be great. And im sure the the only two problem's that exist currently will be rectified when OpenMW or similar projects are released.

But the only discussions so far, are of people saying there are loads of problems. There are very few people who have stepped up and suggested solutions.

Hence...

But i agree. I will make a list of the problems that I have discovered so far

Then might I suggest switching the previous out with what you've just said. It addresses the issue more directly, lets everyone who doesn't know that you know that there is an issue know that you are indeed aware of it. While at the same time suggesting that solutions to the problem would greatly be appreciated if anyone has them.

That way no one thinks it's already been solved (and comes asking for the magic formula on how you did it so they can set up their islands out of the conflict areas) or thinks that you don't know that the problem is.

Oh, and as for that list of problems...

Umm... It takes a while for MGE to create distant land for the whole of Tamriel...
Oh, and making the height maps takes a bit of time to get them right.

I imagine it takes forever to even load the game.

And of course people are interested, SGMonkey. I would load this into my game as heightmaps only, even, just to know I can travel to those places, are barren as they might be. Will also help to combat the emptiness that will come when the mainland is done but not much else is.

Pretty awesome. Well done. Now just need a small army of modders to fill it with stuff!

Look forward to checking it out sometime in the future.

Thank you for the interest. :twirl:

And your not wrong. Will definitely need a fair few modders to work on this. Obviously, each province will be worked on by a separate team, which i hope, will eventually start to work together, share resources, knowledge of lore and ideas and the like.

Here's hoping

No, I mean, how big is the player in comparison to the land? Will the Illiac bay and whatnot be tiny, average, huge, what?

It's rather large to say the least. I'll put some screenshots up later to show just how large it all is.

Remember, its all to scale with the vanilla land

What I think Wolli meant, is that it's been made to scale, so you can use the map to figure out how big it is.

The island in Morrowind is vvardenfell, where Morrowind takes place, so just compare that to Illiac Bay on the map.
It's a little larger than the original game's land, from the looks of it.

If you look at the larger island inside the bay, that island is about the size of the city of Vivec in Vvardenfell, the whole high rock/hammerfell map is ~3 times the size of Vvardenfell, so I would say, its very vast to say the least.

Edit: To put it another way, the whole thing is about the size of Morrowind, both Vvardenfell and all of the planned maps from Tamriel Rebuilt..........Huge comes to mind, also, about as much land as there is in all of TES IV only at TES III's scale.....impressive imo!

Yeeeeah, but I was just talking about illiac bay, that's just the very north of hammerfell, and all but the very east of high rock.

:D I knew what you meant, I was just trying to expand on that, but seriously, no matter which pic you look at, its rather rediculously large by any mods standards, even the first map shown is bigger then the first TR map released, and about as big as the two released so far combined! :bolt:
