[IDEA] Project Tamriel...

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:06 pm

I, for one, would like a merged copy of the continent template for download at some point. I'd also still suggest moving the entire landmass (including Vvardenfell) so that the coordinate 0,0 is over the Imperial Isle or something else near the center of the continent. That way, you can minimize the distance glitch as much as possible.

Awesome stuff! looks great with the rivers

Glad you like...

for anyone that wants to help on hammerfell i have made a Grid. Eventually i will list out each "site" that will need to be included in each grid square :) http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w152/Wolfsbane_89/hammerfellgrid.jpg

Good going...

I could do that quite easily, but is anyone gonna re-make all the affected scripts in morrowind.esm and bloodmoon.esm??? I think not...

EDIT: Just thought, this could be possible if i just exported the whole landscape and reimported it, just without any npc's or scripts, just to see what it looks like anyway

this is looking great so far!
I wouldn't think a project this big could get along so quickly. I'll definitely continue following this thread and see where it goes!

Well so far ive got each and every province mapped out, in seperate .esp's including exact scale land and rivers according to http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i201/Vality7/TamrielMap.jpg map

All that needs doing is for people to make some models and make a few mountains here and there, place stuff about, make some people, make a few stories, make some changes to the mountains, and add some more objects around the place, and so on... :)

Anyone welcome

I really like the idea but I wouldn't know where to start and how to help.

Also, I did offer my hand at Tamriel rebuilt, but i didn't feel welcome

you know what would be nice? telling us about that, so that we can work on fixing it

as for the idea at hand, i think its good but the size makes it simply impossible. thats millions of cells of land to landscape and clutter, thousands of interiors to create... and then there is the whole engine instability thing to consider.

just FYI i have found TR memebers helpful and friendly. Never had a problem with any TR memeber

AS for this project - i agree iam worried about engine instability and the ammount of work involved. BUT i have jumped at hammerfell as i have always wanted to make it for morrowind. I dont think i would work on any of the other ones, and i really do understand the ammount of effort/work involved. So if it takes me 1 year or 4 or 5 or 6 i dont mind. It will keep me busy and yes pace may slow down and if it gets too bad i dont mind releasing what i would have done.

The way i am looking at it is not as a whole province that needs making but indivdual areas that make up a provience. SO breaking it down into smaller chunks. Doing one small chunk at a time ect.....

Exactly, and it wouldn't take any people very long to atleast do landscape, texture's and statics

So even if a group of people get together and say 2 people do each one, it could be done quite easily

Plus there is also OPENMW, that could solve the 0, 0 problem in the future

Fantastic idea. For years I have been closely watching the Morrowind modding community, waiting for someone to start a project with the goal of recreating Tamriel in its entirety. Looks like it's finally going to happen. I would definitely be interesting in contributing to this project.

I know it's nice to start up your own super mod and have that feeling of exclusivity and all that jazz. But you have to think realistically... a mod of this size rivals that of Tamriel Rebuilt, and look at the rate at which that is going. The progress is continuous and quality, yet it is no where near being completed even with all the help that the team has. Without a big team, this won't get completed in a reasonable amount of time. Not to be the party pooper, but it's too much work. Great idea though.

lol have you been reading my posts? :P - like i said i am doing hammerfell - in small chunks and i dont care how long it takes me :) I am an experienced modder so i dont really have the looming fear of "oh nose i have to do it all by myself" and like i satated above in a previous post, cause its in "chunks" if i ever lose heart i can release and then pick up where i left of. Its odd but i am actually feeling really commited to it, unlike any other mod that i have ever done/worked on before.

No I didn't read anything between the first and fifth page. Sorry :D

I'll respect your decision to take it on, but I'm pretty sure the end product will be rather... chunky. No offense to your dedication nor your modding skills. I will gladly take back my statements if you prove me wrong though.

Good luck with it!

Oh ye of little faith :P

EDIT: And this wasn't intended to be a rival mod to TR, I for one think TR do amazing quality work. If anything i would like to work with them on TR or on any of these mods

Honestly, in my mind, the point of this cannot possibly be realistic completion. As many have said, the size is overwhelming, and we can look at other projects (Silgrad Tower, TR, any number of total conversions) and see that even with years and many hands, smaller ideas than this are extremely long-term.

That said, in my mind, this is more about the possibility of a bigger sandbox. I don't want this in order to have a completed Tamriel. I'll gladly settle for a completed Morrowind in X number of years when TR is finished. I want this to play around in. I want this so that when my mind comes up with a mental image of a place in Elswyr, I can open up a map that has the basic land, add what buildings and props I imagine, and then open up the game to see what it might look like. I could already do this with the CS in some respects, but this mod would give me the right sense of scale, the vastness of what's involved, and a more realistic coastline than I could probably produce on my own. If I (or anybody else) completed anything, that would be great, but for me, this whole thing is really just an aid for an already vivid imagination. That's not a bad thing at all.

I still think it's a great idea none the less ^^
Would like to start collect resources but I really think we would be better of with a centralised database of files.
And that we ensure compatibility with every other recreation, given they're true to the map.

I think just having a huge template like this makes it easier in future to keep on adding continents.

I have to say, those watching those videos made this thing look very promising. If I recall though, wasn't there some kind of problem with making cells too far away from 0,0? I thought that was the reason that TR decided to do Morrowind only. If that's been fixed however, you can completely disregard what I've said above here.

Otherwise I'd like to see these things done. I would offer my help to something, but I'm not sure how much help I'd be as I've never tried my hand at anything with landscape editing.

Just curious, but have you ever played on a complete new landmass at x-200, y-200 with objects and seen any engine stability problems? Such as graphical glitches and whatnot

From the worst things ive seen, the gaphical issues are very minor and there are no other issues as far as i have noticed with my tests

Have you placed any NPCs? I thought it said something about AI problems.

Ive placed NPC's and animals amd statics all at over -200, -200, and i have see no errors other than your character gets a tiny bit twitchy, not movement wise, but 3d wise, but its hardly noticeable

I've been reading a lot of valenwood lore and learned that I have to build a tree-city made of non-organic material build in a mile high tree.
Sounds cool, I'll be focusing on http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Falinesti. Luckily for me, the tree doesn't move anymore.
But I have to make it look like it could just walk away... And since Falinesti is Bosmer build, and Bosmers abide by the Green Pact, it cannot look like it's build from materials coming from the flora and fauna
