Project V13 News "Soon"?

I often browse the interplay forums and came across this post from Chris regarding a demo.

Does this mean Interplay have kept the contract to create it? Or is it perhaps a last ditch attempt to whoever to say "it's underway, look at what we've done so far, let us keep the IP"?

V13 is the Fallout MMO right? I think they'll keep the contract since there was a demo shown to private parties.

They might simply rename it and change into a non-Fallout post-apocalyptic MMO.

I don't think that would benefit Masthead in any shape or form though since Earthrise is already a non-Fallout post-apocalyptic MMO.

Honestly, I was always a little confused as to how that agreement benefitted Masthead to begin with. I was never clear on just what they were getting out of the deal.

My understanding is that Interplay plans to continue with V13 with or without the Fallout license. However, it could be difficult to release much information on the game if they don't know whether they can use the license, so hopefully this means the contract dispute will be over soon.

When it is I imagine we'll hear about it promptly. If Interplay retains the license, or negotiates a new contract to retain the license, they'll want to get that out quickly. If Interplay looses the license it's probably in Bethesda's best interest to make that public, although they wouldn't be in the same rush.

Yeah, that confuses me as well.

To be honest I think it would just be better for Bethesda to let them make the game as that wll add to the Fallout series and given that Bethesda has a fallout game they should just let them do it and have people get interested in the growing fallout name and start playing th online version and maybe learn about the other games if they dont already know. And if they did know and hadnt ever played them maybe they would chang their minds and do so. Bethesda has nohing to gain by canceling the deal but....i dont care if i get banned... the loss of me as a cutsomer because its not fair that they would take something that interplay started and just rip it away from them when they are the parent company of the entire series.

I wonder if they could do that legally? (try and slip it out when they know it is in a legal dispute). I hope not, that is kind of skatey!

Bethesda wouldnt cancel the deal; what will happen is that if Interplay didnt met the requirements of the contract it will lose the right to. It includes having proper funding, i dont remember how much but, it is several million dollars, and to meet a deadline which can be extended if it is developing well. AFAIK the fund raising is bad, and i even see an desperate action of old school fans haters of fo3 trying to raise individual funds at NMA.

I think that your defense of Interplay might come from misplaced loyalty. Afterall, it's not like they have much of the team that created the original games still working for them. Also, they are responsible for nearly destroying the Fallout series by laying off BIS and making Fallout: BOS.

Bethesda would benefit from Interplay losing the Fallout MMO rights because the rights would revert back to them and they could then make their own mmo or turn around and license the rights to someone else. Also, if Interplay did release V13 with the Fallout name attached, it could just as easily hurt the series as help it. What if it svcks? Interplay doesn't necessarily have a very good track record in recent years.

Just sayin'.

Ah, the irony. The only thing I would have thought farther from Fallout, besides Fallout 3 (before I played it and actually liked it) would be a MMORPG. Its like Pixar doing an Alien film, then fan boys trying to get the rights to go to Disney because the Pixar film wasn't advlt enough.
