I was recently reminded of http://www.imperial-library.info/obscure_text/forum.shtml from a while ago describing how to pronounce the racial names of elves. After reading it for the first time in months, I realized i've been pronouncing them ALL WRONG ? besides for Altmer and aldmer ? and i wanted to make sure I could pronounce the human racial names correctly. currently, i'm pronouncing:

Nord- No-rd (I think that's right)
Nede- need
Kothrigi- Co-three-gee
Brenton- Brent-un
Cyrodiil- see-rode-ill
Redguard- red-guard
Ra Gada- Raw-god-a
Yokudan- Yo-koo-dan

It's Breton, not Brenton.

Ragada is more "Rah Gah Da"

And it's Kothringi as in Coth-ring-gee
And you broke up the syllable in Cryodiil wrong. It's more like see-row-dill.

But hey. Don't take our words for it. I interchangeably say "Dee-dra", "Die-dra", and occasionally "Day-dra".

This is probably what Mehrunes Dagon is trying to say, this is just a slightly more (less?) accurate spelling - Cyrodiil pronounced with the syllables as SEER-UH-DILL I believe, or at least that's how the Dunmer seem to pronounce it when addressing Imperials in Morrowind.

Another one I've never been able to figure out is Divayth Fyr. Div-ay-f-fear? Div-aye-f-fear? Or is it more like -fihr?

I always say DAY-druh because my first exposure (haven't played Battlespire) to the DEE-druh pronunciation was with Oblivion. And I refuse to view anything in that game as credible from the getgo.

EDIT: Interesting little fact I seem to remember reading somewhere. Dunmer is pronouned as DOON-mer, but everyone is so accustomed to the voice actors' interpretations that nobody cares anymore.

Kee-row-dill? As in Cyrodiil? I don't think that's how you pronounce it. I've heard it as see-ro-diil in Oblivion.

Am I the only one who thinks that Sigh-row-dill would sound kind of cool, although difficult for voice actors to nail perfectly?

There was even Tsee-Row-Dee-il in early unofficial translations of Daggerfall.

I've seen several people try to alliterate cyrodill as "seer oh dill" in this thread.

But the way the NPCs pronounce it in the game sounds more like "sear oh dill", like the word for burning something, rather than the word for one who sees or a mystic or something. The two words sound very similar but there's a slight difference.

Actually your "soft c", by which you mean it's pronounced like an s, is not the way the Romans from Cicero's time pronounced it; they did pronounce it as a k. The shift to s is an evolution initiated in vulgar Latin that carried into the romance languages.

Ok, I do remember a (brief) lesson, in the differnt latin we use, way back in biology.

I have a friend who pronounces things weird...sometimes just "wrong" in my opinion. I say Day-drah (friend says dee-drah), Drow (dreugh) (friend says dru-geuh), Vi-vic (friend says (Vi-vec, which might actually be accurate?) so idk.

I believe one of the rumors in Oblivion involves people saying that they tend to call Land Dreugh "billies," and in said rumor I believe they give a pronunciation for Dreugh. I recommend checking in-game to see how they say it. As for Vivec, I believe they say "Vi-Vec" in oblivion.

Vivec is "Vuh VEHK", emphasis on the VEHK. It's pronounced this way by Almalexia in her long speech to the player before the final fight with her.

And for good measure, she says "So THA Sil", with a hard TH, not a soft one. And her own name is pronounced by NPCs as "Al ma LEX ia"
