Property / Economy ideas...

Its something that may have allready been mentioned before but my idea is that if economy is going to play an even bigger role this time round, and asuming that were all going to be able to buy most propertys like in Fable (Hopefully!!), the game should give us more options and responsabilitys as its owners rather than just lowering or raising rent/taxes.

I think it would be much better if we could also make decisions such as who we want working in that particular store and having the power to either fire all the people working their and replace them all, or deciding if the family down the road needs more help on the ranch etc.
Not only this but once weve purchased properties, why cant we have people aproach us and ask to buy it off of us etc.

I think this would be great for the game as it would make it more realistic and challenging, plus seeing as how side quests are generated by the computer it could offer for more great quests based on who youve done business with.

Quick example:

You receive a letter sugesting that one of the servants you hired to help out at the "Olan Tavern" has been stealing goods behind their backs, go and investigate as soon as possible.

Youve questioned everyone on site and come to the conclusion that the servant has been stealing goods and breached his contract, he has to be let go.

A few days later you receive word that the servant you let go for breaching his contract has hired assasins to kill you, track him down and try to end this madness! (optionall - kill him or talk sence in to him).

What do you think?

Hiya I like the idea, but I missed the official info from Bethesda about being able to buy loads of properties, owning stores and hiring and firing people etc as you suggest in your post, unless I've misunderstood your intention in starting this thread - can you provide a link to official confirmation about that before I get too invested in the idea? Or is it just conjecture? (not that there's anything wrong with a bit of conjecture mind you! But the way you say it, it sounds as if you know this is happening, and it would be a departure - albeit not necessarily an unwelcome one - from previous games!)

Thanks xx

This sounds great. I'd love to buy a few buildings and rent them out to people in the city, or buy some farmlands and hire farmers to 'live' there in exchance for a percent of their crop, but preferably gold.
I love this idea

they have not confirmed you'll be able to buy proberty like in fable but they have confirmed your character will have an effect on a towns economy.

If that's the case then that sounds good. I downloaded a nice mod for Morrowind where you could build a tavern, hire guards to keep nasties away from the roads nearby, hire musicians to play there etc. (I am sorry that I cannot remember who the author was to give them appropriate credit, but it's a nice mod) and it was very enjoyable, and I would like to see that sort of thing implemented in Skyrim out of the box because it adds to immersion. I'm not sure that I'd want to be able to buy any building or business, because that has the potential to unbalance the economy - but being able to be more involved in the business side of things beyond the "invest in this store" financial option in Oblivion and perhaps come to own a tavern or a store and have a questline related to stocking it or attracting customers would be welcome :)
