But anyway... New Vegas. I love it.
So far, it is exactly what I expected, and I expect damn-near perfection. The world around me, the characters, and the quests, are more reminiscent of Fallout 2, while obviously the engine and gameplay feels a lot like Fallout 3, but with a lot of new additions. But how about a list:
Pros:
Writing (quests, characters, etc. I feel is better than Fallout 3 and definitely feels more like a Fallout game.)
More everything (enemies, weapons, and quests - they've added a lot.)
Better towns and settlements (something I always felt was lacking in Fallout 3.)
Companion improvements (Making companions important again, also better written and with better options)
Enemy leveling / difficulty. (to me, this has been perfected. With Oblivion, everything was leveled up to you and it felt boring and repetitive. Fallout 3 was an improvement, but it still seemed difficult to find many enemies that would be difficult to you, especially early on. Now, New Vegas Reminds me more of Morrowind and Fallout 2 - it's easy to go someplace that will get you killed early on, and lots of really tough enemies. This makes it feel all the more rewarding when you're powerful enough to kill them.)
Damage Threshold. (Bringing this back to the series in place of FO: 3's damage resistance was a wise choice, and also helped with making some enemies too difficult to fight, but also makes you feel like a powerhosue when you're wearing good armor. This was one of my biggest complaints of Fallout 3, because in fallout 2 when you got power armor you were practically invincible against weaker enemies, and likewise enemies in power armor were near invincible. In fallout 3 it felt more like power armor was just a step up from leather or something.)
Crafting. (It's awesome - although I am missing some of the cool weapons you could make in FO: 3.)
Player leveling. (I think the perks and leveling are better balanced, and bringing traits back was the right choice.)
Cons:
Bugs. (There's no denying it, the game is buggy. I come to expect a lot of bugs in games with a smuch goign on as this, but this is definitely buggier than many similar-scale games like Oblivion and Fallout 3 I've played (at launch). However, I haven't run into ANYTHING game breaking, just minor annoyances and graphical things. Really, it's not too bad. But, maybe I should get more specific with what I've experienced.)
Bugs and glitches I've experienced:
On a couple occasions quests have resolved, and my quest log will tell me I've done or witnessed something that I haven't.
My gun and arms sometimes get jacked up too high in first person mode. While I'm wearing legion armor, sometimes my skirt gets stuck in front of my face in first person. This happens all the time, and is a big annoyance but not a major problem.
Sometimes when I have to reload a save several times in combat situations, when I come back I can't shoot my gun. If I change guns, I shoot one bullet and then can't use it. In VATS I can call out targets, but it will just stay in slow-mo for a really long time without shooting at all. This fixes itself after a minute or so, or if I switch between weapons rapidly, but it's really annoying when I'm in a combat situation.
Game crashing. I'm on the xbox 360 and the game freezes up and crashes more than most games undeniably.
Texture jittering. This happens when two planes or something overlap and the texture rapidly jitters between the two. I see it in places in all games, but I've seen it a lot here and it's just the result of sloppy environment building.
Anyway, the pros far outweigh the cons for me. Who here feels similarly? Share your pros and cons.
