ProsCons thoughts.

Just "finished" the game and wanted to throw some feedback. Maybe someone will actually read it. I try to keep bugs/glitches/engine and other tech stuff out of this.

Everything is just my personal opinion/experience and might be questionable. MIGHT CONSIST MILD SPOILERS!

Pro: Really good story for bethesda (not like their stories are bad, but this one really engaged me). It is the first one I actually finished. And I stick around since Morrowind, so that's quite a few (to be fair, I didn't finish New Vegas either).

Con: Outside of the main story there's no story going on. TES had a bunch of guilds you can join with their own storylines and what not. And those guild stuff usually had a better quality writing then the main thing. Here, you finish the main story and you are pretty much done (you won't squeze more "story" out of the game).

Pro: A batch of a really cool quests. Like silver shroud or witchcraft academy, the asylum questline etc. Huge thumbs up.

Con: These quests are few, most of the time you do fetch quests "clear this plase/bring this item". In the context of the game they are ok. You can grind XP, find stuff, discover new locations. Unfortunately, fetch quests is pretty much everything three game fractions have to offer, with minor exceptions.

Pro: Great map with lots of stuff to explore. The downtown is a bit too crammed with points of interest, but overall, good use of space. Glowing sea was a lot of fun, and the atmosphere there is just amazing. You can often find something funny or interesting, like the Treasury in Jamaica Plains for example.

Con: There's not much physical reward to exploring. You find the same old junk everywhere. Only a couple of times I found something unique, still it was worse then the stuff I already had, but at least it wasn't a pipe revolver again. Every "master" safe has a pipe revolver in it. Or at least it seems that way.

Pro: Settelment system is fun.

Con: But I feel that because of that there are really few unique settelments in the game. I can recall only three "Diamond city", "Goodneighbour" and that obelisk thing. Well, maybe BoS zeppelin also counts. Also in player settelments would be cool if when you hover your aim over a settler it shows what job he ocupies with text.

Pro: Hoarding stuff. Love it. Junk is useful and I spent hours picking up ashtrays and microscopes.

Con: It is so essential, that people who don't like to do it, won't have a good time.

Pro: Layerd armor is a cool "step backwards". Gives more versitality. And power armor is just hot.

Con: Without the armorer skill it's quite meh though. The best pieces that give you stats need to be upgraded. I'm not sure if you could take the mods from armor though (like you can with weapons).

Pro: Companions are cool. They have interesting backgrounds and sometimes offer quite interesting quests.

Con: I wish they had more conversations going on. Also other then carry your stuff they are pretty useless most of the time (hacking and lockpicking might be usefull, but not critical). Their aim is way off (even the supposed sniper characters), they eat bullets like crazy and only somewhat effective in mele.

That's all I can think of for now. I need to replay it for the other faction.

As you said - main quest is great, but I can't find really engaging side quests. Shame there isn't any other factions/guilds on the side which you can join or work your way up in.

Indeed! BGS pulled a reverse typical BGS, and made the main story really, really good while the side quests are sort of meh.
