Proscriptive Lore Topic: Renaming The Imperial City

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 5:35 pm

Face it: It's a crap name, a hokey atavism left-over from the ancien régime of King Bubba. Sure, you can wax poetic about all the possible 'pataphoric meanings of such a seemingly generic name, but that still doesn't negate the fact that the name is utter crap.

In no particular order, here's my 2.5 cents:

Al-Eshium

Paravania

Perrifipolis

Perrifhem

Welkynburg

Shezarreth

Cyroda

Leucochrysos

Turrusurbus

Zurina

Varlathenos

Septimar

Rumaren

Nirnaxis

Martinnia

Adadelphia

Tiberon

Pelingrad

Remanospygros

Morihouse

The city is Cyrodiil and I plain don't like to call it something as bland as 'The Imperial City'. Just as Dr. Robotnik is always Dr. Robotnik because Dr. Eggman sounds dumb.

But to get to the original topic of the post: I like Morihouse. It's just the right amount of pun.

Varlabalmathi, originally.

Then: Nirnavel? I dunno.

Edit: Gonna make a poll of it?

They've already got one of those, it had wood. How about WhiteHold, since it has stone?

Years ago, I was trying to remember a thing Sload wrote where he renamed it. Either I remembered correctly, in which case he made it up, or I remembered incorrectly, in which case I did.

How do u say "The Imperial City" in Daedric? I realize daedric might seem weird for the imerials to use, but its an eternal language, probably existing before creation.

I like Nirnaxis, thought it's a little too blatant. Shezzareth and Pelingrad are probably my favorites.

The problem with those is that they dont sound epic and majestic enough.

New Vilverin

Tiber or Cyrod aren't bad, but personally I quite like the Imperial city. Years ago, I was quite hostile to it because of its generic and unpersonal nature, but I've grown to like it.
