Prostitution in Skyrim (serious topic)

Post » Mon Dec 13, 2010 4:17 am

Hmmm... I haven't gotten that far... but it was a different company then, no?

No. Same company.

EDIT: :ninja:

I can totally see prostitution fits Skyrim as a province, as a race that loves war, freedom, booze. Where the naked brave men gather there are prosttutes. I would buy their services quite often.

Same name sure.

Same Todd Howard. I'm sure a lot of other people are still there that worked on Daggerfall as well.

It wouldn't really "introduce" homosixuality. It's been in the series for a while now.

Prostitution is one of those things I'm ambivalent about. If it's in, fine. If it's not, whatever. It wouldn't add to my immersion any more than it would take away from it, which is to say, it wouldn't. As long as it doesn't make things so overly-sixualized, but I don't see that happening.

This.

Of course. Wake up in the morning, eat breakfast, hire a hoker. That's my daily ritual. Everyday life.

Sure... but he was listed as an 'additional designer' on Daggerfall, and not executive producer.

And got promoted because he was so awesome. Either way, later TES games have prosttutes and/or nekid clubs.

Okay, well, whatever. Irrelevant none-the-less. Daggerfall could get away with a lot more not because of the team working on it, but because of the time period where some nudity and things like that were more common in fantasy settings like that.

And lose the younger generation of gamers due to rating restrictions? I don't think Beth is that stupid. Think about it. There is more than one generation of gamers on this forum cause we all got hooked on different TES games. I think it's fairly fair to say that once a TES fan, always a TES fan, so why would Beth potentially exclude a whole generation of gamers (and potential paying fans) through making the game too mature for them? Sure, I guess many will just play the game anyway, restrictions and all, but surely they do their job and alot of people just would be able to buy the game (?). So I don't reckon prostitution is on the cards, simply because I think Beth would lose more future profits than what they would gain.

I like to think of them as actual game developers rather than a corporation only concerned with sales, though that may just be naive of me.

One thing to point out though is that the game most likely will be mature anyways, the same with Oblivion and the Fallout games I believe. So that's not really a relevant argument.

On a serious note, there is no need for this in Skyrim. :/

It's in all the other TES games, on a small degree. I don't see why they should remove it to sugar-coat everything for people who are afraid of sixuality.

I like the idea about having prosttutes. A few borthels like the House of Earthly Delights would add too the atmosphere, IMO.

Let the modders deal with prosttutes.

Edit: And I mean by putting them in-game. Not them becoming pimps and clients.

But they said Skyrim is supposed to have a grittier atmosphere, I think it would add to it. Sort of like Fallout 3.

Though I hope they wouldn't make it a joke like Obsidian did in Fallout: NV.

as long as they add proper six scenes. if not, make them unhireable and just for flavour.
No need to waste dev time and resources.

Have some in the poorer parts that offer their services. I don't really care whether you can accept them or not. Making a six scene is a waste of resources in my opinion.

They should just use the one that was meant for Daggerfall, but never made it into the game.

I think Todd said they still have it

Has been in all TES games.. In what way did oblivion have prosttutes? Yeah thought so.

But I personally have nothing against if they are added in the game as long as they make sense and not only added because they can be added. In Fo3 they were, imo, unnecessary because they were there and yet they weren't. "Afrair of sixuality"? More like afraid of it not being in the game while still being there like in Fo3 and FoNV. They add nothing by just being there because they can be there.

Besides talking about maturity level (not saying this to anyone specific), is unnecessary because six simulation games are 16+.

That's just a society flaw... and not really my point. Different people equals different vision, and ego; Just look at Fallout these days. Todd Howard once used 'Fallout Tactics' as an example that turn based combat and Isometric style did not resonate with fans of the series; (ignoring that Tactics was not an RPG, but a linear mission, squad based strategy game ~Whose only redeeming feature IMO was the improved TB combat).

Oblivion was Teen rated though, granted. But I seem to vaguely recall him saying that he would not do nudity even if allowed. ~though I do not recall where that was printed.

It just seems like the series has changed due to creative differences. Maybe I am wrong, and it will be different in Skyrim.

Not only in fantasy, in films too. When you watch 80s and early 90s (Hollywood) films you can still see a boob in there. Nowadays, there's always a bottle, eggplant, loaf of bread of something in front. :)

There doesn't need to be nudity for prostitution to be included. I can recall several games that had prosttutes and no nudity.

I agree.

**Its funny... Planescape comes immediately to mind. There must have been at least 40 prosttutes in Sigil.
The the art was good, but hilariously juvenile. There was only one instance of nudity in Planescape that I know of.
