Protagonist Free-for-All

Post » Wed Jul 27, 2011 9:58 am

I cast my vote for The Lone Wanderer. Not only because I think TLW could've beaten any of them in a fight, but because TLW could have beaten them in a fight all at the same time. Carpet nuking with the MIRV is deadly indeed.

I was going to make a topic like this. I think the Vault Dweller was the greatest protagonist, though I think the Lone Wanderer was good as well.

In order for me:

1. Vault Dweller

2. The Chosen One

3. The Courier

4. Lone Wanderer

5. The Warrior

You joking? The Vault Dweller would murder the Lone Wanderer with no problem at all. The Chosen One would scraqe the LW off of the boot of his APA.

I'm going to say LW because I like Lyons BOS and Outcasts and Talon company and the Enclave and all the rest!

I wonder if anyone will pick the Warrior. I'd have liked to see some of his story.

The characters of fo and fo2 did humanity saving. FOT, fo3, and fo nv are more local, or group saviours.

So I d say it goes like this.

1. Chosen One
2. Vault Dweller
3. Lone Wonderer.

FOT and fo nv do not have an ending, so we do not not know what they did, but it is much less important than what the other 3 did.

probably
4. Warrior
5. Courier

The Courier.

I'll admit being ignorant to the Vault Dweller and the Chosen One and what exactly they're capable of, but I voted for the Courier because he has a tool or skill for literally every situation. He has the cunning to sneak through the Sierra Madre without getting his head blown off, he has the survival skills to survive Zion, the clever thinking neccesary to make it through the Big Empty, and he's tough enough to survive ALL of that and two bullets to the head at point-blank range. With an enemy like the Lone Wanderer and the MIRV in his hand, it's crucial to be able to dodge it OR to prevent him from ever firing a shot. The Courier has Turbo to provide him with time to either run the hell out of range of the mini-nukes or to shoot the MIRV out of TLW's hands before he fires the shot. The Courier is the only one with access to Turbo and also the only one that doesn't typically wear power armor. However, power armor has a weakness to impulse weapons, and the Courier has the pulse gun, not to mention any idiot can throw an impulse grenade, seeing as how there's no risk of the impulse grenade actually killing the Courier himself. He also has several melee weapons that ignore DT/DR in case an opponent's defense is just too much. Lastly, the Courier is kick ass in close-ranged combat. He can knock the opponent down, stun the opponent, immediately counter after a block etc. I'm pretty sure none of the others are as skill in CQC as the Courier, so he'd win that battle.

People may say TLW just because he potentially has a perfect SPECIAL and his Power Armor provides damage RESISTANCE. That's great, but look at the quality of his weapons. They're [censored]. TLW's available weapons don't do enough damage to stomp all over Damage threshold, so his Damage resistance, while nice, is basically the same as threshold in many cases, the only exceptions being that the Lone Wanderer could take multiple hits from an Alien Blaster or a Fatman.

Either way though, all of them have access to an Alien Blaster, but only the Courier has access to the tools neccesary to shoot someone else's alien blaster out of their hand before they shoot his. Speed is neccesary when everyone on the field is incredibly deadly, and the Courier has that.

I chose the Vault Dweller, the only reason over the Chosen one was because no Vault Dweller no Chosen One.

1. Vault Dweller
2. Chosen One
3. The Lone Wanderer.

I can only judge them by their canonical actions, because there are usually multiple protagonists for one player with different decisions.
Deciding based on your own characters is a bit silly IMO.

So,
The Chosen One probably had the most impact on the world, stopping the Enclave and apparently paving a lot of way for NCR expansion in California.
The Vault Dweller stopped the mutant invasion, and played a big role in the birth of NCR, saving Tandi and all.
The Lone Wanderer and the Courier are, IMO, minor local heroes with the Lone Wanderer perhaps achieving more during his adventures, although I can't say it's the path I would've wanted for D.C. But stopping the Enclave be it good or bad is a considerable achievement, and it would not have happened without him. The Lone Wanderer also possibly helped make the Pitt into a future superpower, if Ashur/Werhner's promises about the cure are true.
The Courier is somewhat a supporting breeze who just makes events happen. A third party. Since there is no canonical ending to NV yet, it's hard to say what the Courier eventually achieved. Not saying that the Courier was unimportant, though.

That said I'll vote Chosen One.

EDIT: In a numerical order:

1. Chosen One
2/3. Lone Wanderer
2/3. Vault Dweller
4. Courier
5. Warrior (can't say about him, played Tactics only for some 5 minutes).

Hold on, are we arguing who's the greatest hero (most amazing feat or biggest impact) or who would win in a fight?

I think greatest feat goes to Chosen One without contest.

Ok so could u give us some reason as to how they would massacre the LW without being bias?Because the mirv is getting all tingly and wants to explode all over them.

I love how you guys just assume the LW will have the MIRV. "Without being bias", bit of a pot calling the kettle black, but here's why: He is more skilled, has actually powerful Power Armor, multiple companions, eye and groin shots, Turbo Plasma Rifle (Back when energy weapons were top tier weapons of mass ownage), good Gauss weapons, and generally more experience.

Lol @ all of you guys thinking that all of the LWs equipment isn't total [censored] compared to the VDs.

I have to agree with this. The LW is no match for the Vault Dweller.

I could use the ohh who says he'll have that card like who says TVD will have PA or a turbo plasma rifle ?If they all had the best equipment from there respective games the LW would kill them all with the mirv and ironicall probably himself aswell .

I'm going for Greatest Hero, no doubt. As I said comparing the protagonists because of how you played them is just plain stupid, since this is a poll. Of course someone's Vault Dweller will beat someone else's Warrior. I know that I had a Stupid HtH Vault Dweller, 17-year old girl Chosen One who was hunted by all law enforcement agencies in California, and a Lone Wanderer who now leads the Enclave in a mostly armchair role, maintaining strict occupation over every large settlement in the Capital Wasteland. But that doesn't matter. They each ended up doing various feats in their time and all achieved the main storyline goals.

If I wanted to put my protagonists against each other, my courier would win. Who is, by the way, (ex-)Colonel Autumn. But anyhow he has better armor than LW could ever have, and there is always console commands I can use to make him superhuman. In a fair fight the one who wins is the one who has the most stimpaks..

Eh, tossup between TLW and Chosen One for me. Chosen One because he single handedly erased Navarro, TLW because he sigle handedly erased the DC fragments of the Enclave. Though, The Warrior, Courier, and Vault Dweller still tie with me for 2nd place. I love them all I guess. :cryvaultboy:

From what I've heard:
Achievement: The Lone Wanderer, followed extremely closely by the Chosen One. After all, they both basically wiped out the Enclave and both retrieved a GECK.
Who'd win in a fight, considering any weapons: Lone Wanderer. Two words. Experimental MIRV. It doesn't matter how much D.T. you have, you aren't surviving 8 mini nukes to the face!
Who'd win in a fight, considering unarmed only, no weapons: the Courier. He's got lots of different perks to help increase his survivability in Unarmed combat, such as the Ranger Takedown, crosses, hooks, etc.. Plus, he has Paralyzing Palm, just like the Lone Wanderer.

Just my opinion.
