I think HDR and motion blur should really be an eye-candy option. As far is it is now my little rig has a severe drop in fps because of this; combine it with color blind issues and you get into a frustrating feeling.

Just one example out of many: See the room in Skyline in the map corner with a counter-desk (where a crash site can be located)? I can position my self near the stairs while glaring at the door exiting to the outside, where I can see the other stairs. With the exagerated HDR, I DO NOT see someone cloacked going down those stairs up to entering the room. I don't percieve the slightest distortion in front of me. Then he just pops in front of me, clueless and proceeds to take my head off with whatever gun he's using.

Or I can wander around, meet an opponent, the dude cloacks in front of me (which is the worst move ever to do), I don't hear him jump or anything. He basically disappears for my eyes, as anything with little contrast will not be percieved one little bit. Mashing melee and full auto hoping to see him again...

Back to first example all I saw was the bright light from outside and nothing else until he uncloaks after all of that passage traveled under cloack. While the normal eye would have perceived something with a fishy coloring difference or whatever, then shoot with extreme prejudice, I won't see *anything*. Ticks me off when I see killcams with people shooting me while cloacked with a slight momentum of paying attention to find me before shooting. Funniest is, I don't even see myself cloacked in the killcam. Much rage, yes.

I'd be really curious to see if my visual awareness would be better without HDR and Motion Blur. Motion Blur gets me killed for the same reasons and worse if I'm trying to look around a bit even if I slow down my "scanning" pace. Often someone not even cloacked can get the jump on me because of this. It's quite frustrating, really. But I love the game "unfortunately"... So I keep playing.

I'd really want to know if changing those settings would be ok. Wishing one of the admins notices this and have time to hand out an answer.

you should try singleplayer with disabled HDR and Motionblur (which can be done via autoexec.cfg)
the difference is so enormous!

Yeah, I tried that. Things happening are a lot more understandable, it ables you to play in a lot more lucid manner. I wished I could in MP, in fact if everyone could, there would be less chaos that makes a lot of games lose structure because there's too much graphics going on. There's a significant gain in fps as well for my modest rig, helps me a lot in avoiding too much confusion from the lack of it. Sigh... WTS beer goggles and other undesired effects :'(

EDIT: I just noticed while fooling around in solo with the couple tweaks that somehow the near death effect and some explosions seem to be part of the motionblur's way to work or something. If I completely disable motionblur, in those situations the screen goes BLACK instead. Anyone getting this? I updated my graphics driver and tried again, still did the same thing. I guess it's coming from the way the engine is treating the gfx data or whatever it is. If some doesn't, then I'll add mentioning that I'm (still) on windows xp.
