Is it me, or did Blizzard rip off this Fallout 2 model and called it a Protoss in StarCraft?

Not quite. 95% games have some general concepts for races/armour sets/other misc stuff, but that not mean that they are plagiarized.

Ive noticed similarities with Alien vs Predator with Hydralisks looking like aliens and Protoss like predators, even some of the quotes from units are taken from Aliens.

Starcraft also borrowed heavily from Warhammer 40k, eg. Tyranids

You can see similarities between Warcraft and Warhammer too Especially the orcs. Warcraft 2 was pretty blatant with the high elves and dwarfs with gunpowder and vehicles as well.

I suppose we can forgive them since that's all in the past now and theyve gone off in their own direction a little bit more but you have to wonder what would have happened if the Warhammer guys had kicked up a bit more of a fuss at the start.

Oh and i just realised the Protoss look heaps like Vasudans from Freespace! Do any of you know the tale of how cornmeal came to be?

I agree, but it is a bit odd that an OLD game which no one except us Fallout junkies remembers gets its iconic image ripped off by a NEW game.
