Province: Cyrodiil. Region #1, Stirk [WIP]

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 10:35 pm

We are way ahead of ya here, this was done a couple years ago and is in fact what we are using.
what? that is awesome!
well its awesome for you, too bad that this wasnt released to public.

dont understand that really ... firstly i doubt that anyone would start making provinces that are already in the works, and secondly it would be no problem if they did.

there is no way for us peasants to get this landmesh too? (i dont want to sound offending here  )

edit: do you even have some secret mcp map extension for whole tamriel? damn that must look so nice!

It wouldn't look that nice actually. In order to show the whole Tamriel on the map, the scale would be so small that the map wouldn't be useful anymore. Maybe with OpenMW.

Usually when province mods first start, not many people know about it. Plus, the Oblivion heightmap from what I saw was inaccurate. This one is very accurate and looks nice. Therefore, only devoted projects or people get them. It's like asking TR to release all of their stuff right now and let us see it. Oh, and I like your mod. Nice, work PeterBitt. And nice work to P:C too. Cyrodiil will be uber-excellent now!

There are several projects going on that the majority of the community simply wont know about until the time is right. We keep the heightmaps just as any other resource is kept. When we release our project then you will have the land data to do with what you will, just not before. It also allows us to keep up with what is going on and helps the provinces stick together and eventually seem more cohessive than if we just allowed them out and people started on a province without first consulting those of us who have been working at this in a rather close-knit core for some time. While individual teams are different, we all essentially are working towards a singular goal and there is plenty of cross-over between the teams as well.

Couple of questions.

What new creatures will be introduced in Stirk?

How much Jungle will it be? Will there be normal forests, and maybe snow in the Bruma aeria?

I can't say, you will just have to play it :)

As for the jungle, it won't suddenly all be one huge forest, expect the great forest to actually be great though and much more tropical feeling than what is known from Oblivion. I would imagine there is still snow near Bruma yes.

Do you think the area leading up to the jeralls will be a more European forest or more tropical (or no forest at all)?

Expect to see a variety of regional types that still fit into the larger "jungle" theme.

Sure looks like you've all put a lot of work into this mod so far.
Good thinking with the making of the height maps to make everything tie in too.
Maybe people wanting to start new province mods should be able to contact the person who made them?

So jungley sort of environment bordering mountain, sort of like Peru or New Zealand. No pine trees at any point?

The areas north of goldcoast are still very much concepts. One thing is sure the borders will match with the habitats on the other sides of them, in a sensible way.

Cyrodill will have a lot of variety, with TES4 Oblivion, and all other TES lore as a basis, but far from that in many ways. It will be a new experience to move through P:C, not a Morrowind copy of Oblivion. P:C has very competent modders in every field, and discussions rise and end daily to make it a great mod.

I would say yes to pines and snow North of Bruma, from medium to high in the mountains where it is cool and bordering Skyrim, the southern slope always has more trees and a higher treeline.

Similarily borders will be matched, in heightmap and habitat.

Are there going to be other villages and town besides the main ones with different architecture like...nordic style cabins in the north for a few small villages and redguard architectures near the border to hammerfell?

Like Stirk and Anvil are very similar in design, yet feel different, all other regions will have settlements with its own feel, this said only a city has a different tileset, if so, and the poorer the area the more universal it will be, like a shack is a shack everywhere, though even that might be different in Nibenay for example.

In short there are not really a set of rules, it is more how limited we are by time, and modding power :D. As the concepts of each of these tilesets are very well thought through and discussed, so that it looks good, but also is very functional for modding.

We rather focus on region by region than take the concepts further in any other region, so nothing can be said about regions other than Gold Coast, other than the regional concepts itself, if made at all, or of all.

The cities of GC are now in concept and planning while the exterior is only partially finished, so I believe it will be hard to get a good answer on detailed questions about regions other than Stirk or Gold Coast.

Si si, pine trees. Pine trees are awesome.

Exactly this. It doesn't really matter how often you ask about the Imperial City (sorry), we can't give you a lot of information about it because I'd rather focus on stuff I am actually capable of making at this point. Imperial City won't be in the making until next year or something, so I don't see the need of conceptualising it at this stage.

Damn! That's TESIII? That detail and quality looks better than TESIV & V! I sure hope an artist such as Revenant is part of the P:C team.

Thanks for the pub Knots. You asked some good questions, and I had to think a bit about a lot of it.
