Why force them to march into the night? It would be easier to rest half way and arrive at midday the next day.
If they march at night, the chances at being caught would be reduced. besides, they will rest a second time on a hill out of sight from Skingrad and will start the siege at around 10 or 11 AM.

Right, and what army does Cassamir plan to use?

His entire army is surrounded in Cheydinhal. Even if he pushes his forces out, he will still take casualties and have an enemy army.
