A Province Divided:

The Interregnum

The year is 2E 472, it has been nearly 500 years since Tamriel has had an Emperor on the throne. The provinces have broken apart into a complex web of small warlords and kingdoms. Even the Imperial Province is nigh unrecognizable.

Since the death of the Akabiri Potentate Savririen-Chorak forty years ago, the Empire has had a string of ineffectual leaders, unable to keep the old Counts from revolting. Soon, the Imperial City found itself separated from the rest of the Empire.

Finally, a minor warlord invaded the Imperial City and wiped out almost all of the Empire's remaining Legions.

Now what little remains of the old Reman Empire has retreated south to Leyawiin, and awaits its doom.

In the West, the highly independent lords of the Colovians swiftly united under the banner of the Colovian Empire.

In the north, a tribe of Boethia worshippers have taken over the former county of Bruma, instituting a new religion based on their Daedric Prince.

In the East, Cheydinhal has fallen to minor, bickering warlords fighting for control of small towns and villages.

In the South, Bravil and Skingraad have united as a single nation.

And on the rocky coasts of the Abbecean Sea, a small city state has formed.

This is a time of great hardship in Cyrodiil, a time of warriors and kings, of mages and assassins. Perhaps there is a new Reman amongst these young kingdoms, a leader that the people of Tamriel can unite around.

?All that is sure is that the Interregnum has begun

But there is still hope.

Recently, a council was called to meet in the White Gold Tower to discuss the future of Tamriel. The leaders of many of the kingdoms have sent representatives, and several leaders have also come. These debates may just be the spark to begin a bloody war, or may lead to a great peace that shall stand the test of time.

Well, who wants to go first?

Fine.

Flavius Latartus

I'll go.

Steward Flavius Latartus maintained his calm composure as he entered the Great Hall of the White Gold Tower alongside his Akaviri bodyguards. It had been more than ten years since he had last seen it. Before him was the massive stone table where the Elder Council had debated for thousands of years. Now, it was being used for a different purpose.

Flavius stayed in the columnade as several minor warlords came in.

Aventius Umbranox.

For days I was traveling to the Imperial city. Cyrodill is in hard times since the empire's downfall. And the empire itself is nothing more than a corrupt city-state. There are many warlords wanting to rule Cyrodill with their corrupt and weak fists. I feel like I am the only person willing to save Cyrodill from these times. Now there is some meeting at the Imperial city. All of the leaders of these petty kingdoms inlcuding me are invited. Maybe I could use this to help spread my influence i this now divided province.

As I entered what used to be the grand hall of the elder council in the White-Gold-Tower. There are a few people already, including the leader of the count of Leyawin, who now leads what's left of the empire.

The first of the warlords that Flavius watched enter bore a striking resemblance to the old Count of Anvil.

Flavius turned to his akaviri advisor, Vassir-Ashan, "Vassir, who is that man? He seems familiar."

"He is the king of what is known as the Kingdom of Anvil, and the son of the old count. He is a reasonably powerful man."

"How should I face him, what is his personality?"

"I am unsure, we have few agents in the former county of Anvil."

"If he is anything like his father, he shall be quite an interesting foe."

As I was sitting, I feel that some of these warlords are watching me. Including the leader of the empire. He was looking at me and seemed to said something to an Akaviri next to him. "We need to keep an eye on him." I said to my advisor.

Orvas, White-Gold Tower

Orvas yawned as he entered the palace of the old Empire. He was tired from his journey, and pessimistic that the negotiations would lead to anything. The minor warlords would end up feuding, and eventually things would turn to violence, with the major powers walking away mostly unscathed. There would no peace, only continued chaos.
Still, it's not like he could have refused to come. He planned to simply nap through the processions until things became more interesting.
He sighed and took his seat. It appeared that number of petty Imperial warlords had arrived, and were squaring off and gossiping already. The vices he'd seen in Cyrodiil would make a Scamp cry, and it seemed that not even their leaders were impure.
Then again, Morrowind turned out not to be much better. He admitted to himself, sighing. He closed his eyes and prepared to drift off into sleep.

Flavius Latartus

Flavius walked across the hall, his bodyguards on both sides of him, and approached Aventius.

"Greetings, Mr. Umbranox. I am Flavius Latartus, representative of the crown of the Reman Empire. We have had little contact with the County of Anvil, it is good to finally meet.

"It is always good to maintain relations with our subjects, no matter how far they are from the capital."

Cassamir Velan

Cassamir approached the room where the Council used to meet.
"This room is taboo. I shouldn't be here..."
His knights approached him from behind.
"Where is Orvas...?"
The knights didn't respond
"Well...?"
They pointed behind one of the chairs.
Cassamir stared at Orvas with a glare and approached slowly
"Orvas you don't need to like being here, but you do need to stay awake..."

Aventius Umbranox.

I listened as the ruler of a weak empire came to me and greeted. Normally, I would of said something to piss him of as I have no respect for the empire for the past ten years. However I know to do that is not a smart move.

"Greeting Flavius. I've heard of you before. Many people think that you are the Empire's last hope. No offence intended."

"Orvas you don't need to like being here, but you do need to stay awake..." Cassamir said, walking up behind him.
Orvas groaned and sat up in his seat. "Fine, but these n'wah will never get anything done."
He sat up and looked around the room. Several major rulers were having formal introductions, but otherwise the room was quiet.
He leaned over to Cassamir. "So, how shall we proceed?" He whispered, carefully gazing around the room.

"You speak as if you are not a part of the Empire. Everyone here is a citizen of the Empire, even if they deny it. The Empire might be down right now, but we are not irrelevant.

"As for me being the 'only hope of the Empire', well , that is slander. I only a temporary ruler. When a suitable candidate for the throne of the Empire is found, I would gladly step down.

I will admit, the past decade has been hard for all of us, but we need to work together if we are to survive these dark times."

"Well I will admit that during the past ten years the Empire's leadership did not appeal to me or any of my people in Anvil. However you seem to be different then most leaders. Most corrupt officials would not step down from your position if there is a candidate. So in my eyes. You may bring good change to Cyrodill. However I do want to re unite Cyrodill under my banner to revive the empire. Though hopefully I can negotiate with you about this matter."

Cassamir Velan
"Come with me" They began to survey the room looking for the most influential people in the room.
"There" Cassamir pointed towards two Imperials discussing politics
"That's the leader of what remains of the Empire"
"but who is the other man...?"

"Thank you, this chat has been most informative. I look forward to hearing your plan, but I feel I must insist that the Reman Empire is not going away, and we will not be taken over by any outside influence. I hope to maintain the Empire, and to simply assist in this time of transition from one Emperor to another.

"Good day, Mr. Umbranox."

Flavius shook Aventius' hand, and walked off to greet another warlord. As they left earshot, Flavius whispered to Vassir.

"He is going to be a problem. I fear he will be an enemy in this Council."

Vassir's snake eyes shrank when he saw Cassamir.

"Milord, that man there is the Daedra worshipper I told you about. We should be careful."

Flavius' guards inconspicuously readied themselves for trouble.

"Now, don't be so hasty. I think we should give him a chance. We will need allies in this meeting."

Orvas, White-Gold Tower

Orvas pursed his lips and peered at them. "I believe that's the King of Anvil, I've heard he's a very ambitious man. If those two formed an alliance, we wouldn't last long, although I couldn't picture them getting along easily."
The two lords parted ways, and it appeared that Flavius of the Reman Empire was searching for someone else to speak with.
"This may be our chance. We should go speak with him." Orvas said.

"Well are we just gonna stand here or are we going to talk to them" he said sarcastically.
"Remember one thing Orvas... we need an alliance..."
The man approached the Imperial and greeted him in a respectful tone
"It's a pleasure to meet you King Umbranox"

Orvas, White-Gold Tower

Orvas nodded. He didn't like most of the other nations in Cyrodiil, seeing them as borderline barbarians without common cause or ideology, but Boethiah's Legion couldn't stand on it's own.
Orvas proceeded towards Flavius, putting on a smile (one of his least favorite activities).
"Good evening, sera," He said, "I am Orvas Salothran, humble adviser to King Velan, the blessed servant of Boethiah. May we speak with you in private?"

I sat here thinking on how to gain alliances. However I noticed that the leader of Bruma was looking at me and talking to a Dunmer. The Dunmer departed from the man and head to Flavius. Knowing I need to make an alliance I have to hurry up. Thing is I don't know much about the other kingdoms.

Well, that sort of messes me up.

"Vassir, what do you think our plan of action should be?"

"I say we wait until the council has begun. I am sure the 'High Emperor Constantius, blessed by St. Alessia' will begin the negotiations soon. Such a boorish name. It is demeaning that we lost the capital to that man."

Flavius put his hand on Vassir's scaly shoulder.

"You should relax my friend. We have to be calm and friendly if we are continue in these negotiations."

"You are a fool, Flavius, this Council has no purpose."

"I know, but I want to see who we are dealing with, and make some friends. If we are to survive, we will need allies. The legions are not as strong as they once were."

"Ahh, here is the Dunmer from the Boethian group."

"Ahh, it is good to meet you, I have heard much of your king!"

"I am pleased to meet you though, I have heard much about your King," Flavius said, stretching his hand out in friendship.
Orvas shook it and nodded at the Imperial official.
"Very well, my lord. Our two nations have lacked communication in recent times, but like most here, we have come seeking potential allies. We may clash in our beliefs, but we share a common cause of unity, whether it be under a Daedric god or a reborn Empire, and in such dark times, it is reassuring to see others who seek to end the chaos that has enveloped this land."

Judging by what he is saying he must be a boethia worshiper. I dislike Deadra worshipers. But maybe if I could form an alliance and attack them when they are left besides me.

"Interesting. I became leader of Anvil since my father died. Infact my family controlled the city for centuries. We just recently took over Kvach and I am planning on uniting Colovia first.
